What’s actually slowing this PC down?

First check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room: confirm whether the broadcast is still live and whether YouTube is receiving data. If it is, restart the encoder and reconnect it with that stream’s configured URL and key. Then confirm that the preview and stream health return. Don’t reset the key or create a new broadcast as your first move; an encoder crash does not guarantee that the existing broadcast or watch page can be resumed.
Recover the stream in this order
- Check the broadcast in Live Control Room. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and inspect the broadcast’s status and incoming data. Determine whether the encoder has stopped while the broadcast remains available, or whether YouTube is no longer receiving the feed. The stream URL and key are the encoder’s connection details; resetting the key is a separate troubleshooting action, not a general crash-recovery step. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains where those details are used.
- Restart the encoder and reconnect. Reopen or restart the encoder application or service. Check that the intended audio and video inputs are present, then reconnect using the URL and key configured for this YouTube stream. YouTube’s general setup instructions do not specify restart controls for every encoder, so use the current instructions for your particular software or hardware.
- Verify the return of the feed. Wait for the Live Control Room preview, then inspect stream health and confirm that both audio and video are reaching YouTube. If the encoder reports a healthy connection but the dashboard or viewers still indicate a problem, investigate outbound internet connectivity.
- Isolate a failed reconnection. Check the encoder’s error messages and CPU load; confirm that its audio and video sources are working; verify the stream URL and key; and test outbound upload capacity. If the key is known to be incorrect or has been reset, copy the current key from Live Control Room and update the encoder. A key reset will not repair a crashed encoder, faulty source, or network outage. YouTube’s live streaming troubleshooting guidance covers connection and stream-health checks.
- Check RTMPS settings if you use RTMPS. Get the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room and confirm that the encoder is using the matching protocol and server. If the symptoms point to a protocol or TLS setup problem, check encoder support and the exact URL before changing unrelated settings. See YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guidance.
- Confirm the stream is stable. Once data and preview return, monitor stream health and the actual audio/video output rather than assuming that a successful encoder connection means the broadcast is fully recovered. YouTube does not guarantee that every encoder crash leaves the same broadcast or watch page resumable; verify the state shown for your broadcast.
When a backup encoder can take over
A backup helps only if it is already configured to provide a feed and has been tested. YouTube recommends testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection, then confirming that the player rolls over to the backup. Treat that as a planned test, not something to discover during an outage. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends enough upload capacity for both primary and backup streams, with a 20% margin.
Before relying on failover, check that your internet connection can carry both feeds at once, that the backup is pointed at the intended stream setup, and that you know how to identify whether the switch worked. The source guidance does not establish a universal switching time or steps for every encoder, so check the documentation for your equipment.
Keep a separate recording for a 24/7 broadcast
Check that local recording is enabled and that the archive file is being written and growing. Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive as the only copy of a continuous radio stream: YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. That is a possibility, not a guarantee that every long stream will be lost or saved. Plan local recording and archive handling separately from live-stream recovery. YouTube’s archive help describes the automatic archive guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the recurring risk is a home encoder or computer stopping, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live as a 24/7 stream. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It is not a camera-based live encoder and does not recover the crashed encoder session itself.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, streamed as uploaded without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; one free day per account.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does restarting the encoder guarantee the same YouTube watch page will continue?
No. Check the current broadcast state in Live Control Room; continuity after an encoder crash is not guaranteed.
Will resetting my YouTube stream key fix an encoder crash?
Not by itself. Reset or replace a key only when diagnosis shows it is wrong or has changed; it will not fix encoder, source, or network faults.
