You can store your video library in Backblaze B2 and run a 24/7 YouTube stream without leaving a PC on—but B2 is storage, not a broadcaster. You need a separate, always-available cloud streaming service or remote server to retrieve the videos and send a live feed to YouTube. No direct B2 integration with the hosted services discussed here has been verified, so confirm the exact file-transfer workflow before committing to one.
How the setup works
Think of the stream as three separate jobs: keep the source videos, play and encode them continuously, and deliver the resulting live feed to YouTube. B2 handles the first job. A cloud service or remote compute handles the second and third, using YouTube’s ingest address and stream key.
- Store: Upload your videos to a B2 bucket. B2 supports its Native API and an S3-compatible API; the S3-compatible option is a practical default when the software you choose supports S3, but confirm the service’s actual supported inputs.
- Play and send: Configure a managed streaming service or a server you administer to retrieve the video, loop or schedule it, and send a live stream to YouTube.
- Receive: In YouTube’s live controls, select the intended stream configuration and provide the ingest details to the service. Treat the stream key as a password.
This is an architecture, not a tested B2-to-YouTube recipe: no working configuration or direct connection between B2 and the named hosted services has been verified. Depending on the service, you may need to transfer files from B2 into its own upload workflow rather than have it read the bucket directly.
Choose how to keep the stream running
| Option | What it does | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Cloud playback keeps uploaded videos live on YouTube without a home computer; any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps uses one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. | Direct B2 access has not been verified. Confirm how to move your videos from B2 into StreamNeo’s upload workflow and check its storage limit against your library. |
| 2. Another managed cloud service, such as Gyre | YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming without a dedicated PC. | The listing does not establish direct B2 integration. Confirm B2/S3 support or the required transfer process, accepted formats, recovery behavior, stream-key handling, pricing, and availability in your region. |
| 3. Remote compute you administer | A cloud server can run playback and encoding software while you control the configuration. | You are responsible for installation, storage access, bandwidth and transfer costs, monitoring, restarts, reconnects, security updates, and recovery. No provider or server configuration is endorsed here. |
If your priority is less server administration, start by checking the managed options’ file-transfer workflow. If direct B2 access is a firm requirement, get written confirmation of the exact B2 API or URL support before buying or migrating your library.

Prepare the B2 bucket and protect access
- Organize the media: Put the videos you intend to stream in a dedicated bucket or clearly managed folder structure. Confirm formats, file-size limits, and whether the streaming service needs to download complete files or can work with a source URL.
- Create least-privilege access: For production, Backblaze recommends a scoped application key. Restrict it to the required bucket and access type; provide only the permissions the chosen workflow needs.
- Keep credentials private: Do not expose a master key or application key in a public playlist, client-side configuration, or logs. If a key is exposed, revoke it and issue a replacement with narrower scope.
- Test retrieval before scheduling: Verify that the streaming service can fetch a representative file and that playback starts cleanly. If it cannot access B2 directly, test the intermediate download-and-upload route and account for the extra transfer and storage.
Backblaze’s Live Read feature concerns reading portions of an object while its multipart upload is still underway. It is not a substitute for an encoder and does not make a completed B2 object broadcast itself to YouTube.
Configure YouTube before launch
Enable live streaming on the channel well ahead of the planned start: YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. In YouTube’s live controls, create or select the event and copy its ingest details into the cloud service or server’s documented fields. Keep the key private, and use a persistent key only if the service’s documented workflow requires it; verify the current YouTube Studio controls rather than assuming a key persists.

Use YouTube’s current encoder settings for the protocol, codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually select. The official guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of 4 seconds. Bitrate recommendations vary by codec and resolution, so consult the current YouTube settings for your exact combination instead of applying a single bitrate to every stream.
- Test with representative motion and audio, not only a static image or silent opening frame.
- Watch YouTube’s stream health during the test and check for dropped frames, unstable ingest, or audio problems.
- Confirm whether your selected service automatically reconnects after an ingest interruption and whether it restarts playback after a process or server restart.
- Plan a schedule or playlist that behaves as intended at the end of the final file; a playlist ending is not the same as an always-on loop.
Estimate the full cost, not just B2 storage
Backblaze’s pricing page, accessed in 2026, lists B2 storage starting at $6.95 per TB per month, with the first 10 GB free. Its described pay-as-you-go terms include free egress up to three times average monthly storage and $0.01 per GB above that amount; it also describes unlimited free egress through certain CDN and compute partners. Rates, partner eligibility, and plan terms can change. Your actual bill depends on stored volume, downloads, API transaction pattern, region, and routing, so check live terms and calculate the expected transfer path before launch.

Add the streaming subscription or server, any separate storage, and any transcoding or transfer charges. A workflow that downloads a video from B2 and then uploads it elsewhere can incur different transfer costs from a service that retrieves it through an eligible partner route. Ask the provider how its source retrieval is billed and how it handles repeated playback of the same file.
Rights, reuse, and monetization
Only stream material you have permission to use, including music, visuals, and any third-party clips in a compilation. A video being stored in your B2 bucket does not establish that you own its rights or may rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s applicable content rules and resolve rights concerns before scheduling a continuous stream; the copyright safety checklist can help you review common issues.

Keeping a channel live continuously does not itself establish monetization eligibility or guarantee revenue or watch-hour results. Channel eligibility and content review still apply; do not treat stream duration as a promise of acceptance or earnings.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common problems and what to check
- The service cannot see a B2 file: Check whether it accepts B2’s Native API, S3-compatible access, or a public/private source URL. If none is supported, use a documented transfer workflow or choose a provider that confirms compatibility.
- YouTube receives no video: Recheck the selected ingest configuration and the key entered in the service. Confirm the event is ready to receive a stream and that the service is actually sending to YouTube.
- The stream health warning appears: Compare the configured protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate mode, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current guidance; then test again using representative motion and sound.
- Playback stops at a file boundary: Check the service’s loop and playlist behavior, including what happens when the last item ends. A single-file playback setting may stop instead of restarting.
- A disconnect does not recover: Determine whether the service reconnects automatically, how long it waits, and whether a server or process restart is needed. Add monitoring and a restart plan if you operate the remote server yourself.
- The B2 bill is higher than expected: Review downloads, routing, average stored volume, transaction activity, and any transfer beyond the included allowance against the current pricing terms.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo is for YouTube and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. Direct B2 integration is not verified, so first confirm how you would move the files into StreamNeo.
