To stream recorded English speaking classes around the clock, create a YouTube Live broadcast and send it a lesson video or playlist through an encoder. You can run an encoder such as OBS on a computer, or use a cloud service so a computer at home does not have to stay on. Enable livestreaming ahead of launch: YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel with livestreaming access. Check the channel’s current eligibility and restrictions in YouTube Studio; access may take up to 24 hours to activate for the first time. See YouTube’s live-streaming help.
  • The recorded lessons you have permission to broadcast, arranged as individual videos or a playlist.
  • An encoder: either software running on a computer or a cloud service. YouTube describes an encoder as the tool that converts video into a digital format for streaming.
  • The YouTube stream URL and stream key for the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, and reset it if it is exposed.

Set up the 24/7 YouTube broadcast

  1. Enable and verify livestreaming. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and follow the prompts to enable live streaming if requested. Complete this before your intended launch because initial activation can take up to 24 hours. Check the channel’s Live Control Room for any restrictions or warnings.
  2. Create or schedule the broadcast. Use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to create or schedule a stream. Scheduling gives you a destination to share with learners in advance. Set a clear title and description that identify the class, level, language and schedule without promising a specific learning outcome.
  3. Choose how the feed will run. With a local encoder such as OBS, your computer sends the feed to YouTube, so it and the network connection must remain available. YouTube also lists cloud tools for looping prerecorded video; these avoid dependence on a dedicated local computer but have their own terms and costs. YouTube’s encoder directory names OBS as free, open-source software and Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded video.
  4. Connect the encoder securely. In the Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching encoder fields. Confirm the key belongs to the scheduled broadcast. Never share a screenshot or screen recording that reveals it. If it leaks, reset the key in YouTube and update the encoder.
  5. Build and check the lesson loop. Add the recordings in the order you want learners to see them. Check that the audio is audible, the video plays correctly, and the loop returns to the intended starting point. Preview the incoming feed in the Live Control Room before starting the broadcast.
  6. Start the encoder and verify the live status. Start sending the feed from the encoder, then check the YouTube preview and stream status. Confirm the correct class is playing and monitor the channel and encoder rather than assuming a 24/7 feed will remain uninterrupted.

Choose a local encoder or a cloud service

Option How it works What to plan for
OBS on a local computer The computer sends the recorded class feed to YouTube Live. OBS is free, open-source software according to YouTube’s encoder directory. The computer, source files, power and internet connection have to remain available; you are responsible for monitoring the broadcast.
Cloud encoder A service sends a prerecorded loop to YouTube Live from the cloud. No dedicated local computer has to stay on for the broadcast, but the service has its own terms and costs. Compare playlist and restart controls, monitoring and recovery, storage limits and current terms before choosing a provider.

For either method, YouTube remains the destination. A local setup avoids an encoder subscription but depends on your own equipment and connection. A cloud setup shifts the continuous sending task to a provider; it does not remove the need to check that the right content is playing and the YouTube stream is healthy.

Plan the replay archive separately

YouTube’s stated automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours. A single 24-hour broadcast falls outside that stated scope, so do not rely on it to create a complete archive of the day-long stream. If a complete replay matters, keep the original lesson recordings and consider shorter broadcasts rather than one continuous 24-hour session. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Check permissions and YouTube rules before looping lessons

Clear the material in every lesson

Review more than the teacher’s voice and slides. Check music, diagrams, textbook extracts, screen-shared software, guest appearances and identifiable student contributions. Obtain the rights and permissions needed for the live transmission and any archive. India’s Copyright Act defines “broadcast” to include rebroadcast and defines “communication to the public” broadly; that is a reason to assess the actual materials and use, not a conclusion that every educational use infringes copyright. Read the Copyright Act and Rules and seek appropriate advice for your circumstances.

Understand live copyright scanning

YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can replace the stream image, interrupt the feed or terminate it. If you have a licence for identified material, the rights owner may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to avoid interruption. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Check audience and channel restrictions

Review YouTube’s current livestreaming restrictions and requirements and the status shown in your Live Control Room, particularly if a minor appears in a recording. For streams marked “made for kids,” YouTube disables features including live chat and reminder notifications; personalized ads are disabled on live streams and Premieres, although contextual ads may still appear. Those audience settings can change how a class stream works for learners.

Do not assume a loop qualifies for monetization

Livestreaming access, permission to use material and monetization eligibility are separate checks. YouTube evaluates channels under its monetization rules, including policies on reused and repetitive or mass-produced content. Do not treat a continuous loop as a monetization tactic or guarantee; review the current YouTube channel monetization policies against the channel as a whole.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to do
You cannot start the broadcast Livestreaming has not been enabled yet, or the channel has an access restriction. Check the Live Control Room and YouTube’s current eligibility and restriction guidance. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed The stream URL or key is missing, mismatched or outdated. Compare the encoder fields with the current broadcast details in the Live Control Room. Reset an exposed key and replace the old value in the encoder.
The preview is black, silent or shows the wrong lesson The wrong source or playlist item is selected, or the recording’s audio/video is not coming through the encoder. Check the selected file and playlist order in the encoder, then verify picture and sound in the YouTube preview before going live.
The stream is interrupted or terminated A connection or encoder interruption, or a match to third-party content, may be involved. Check encoder and Live Control Room status. Review YouTube’s copyright notice if one appears; resolve rights issues and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable.
A 24-hour stream has no complete automatic replay A single stream of that length is outside YouTube’s stated automatic-archive scope of streams under 12 hours. Retain the original recordings and use shorter broadcasts if a complete replay archive is important.
