To reduce interruptions, schedule Windows restarts outside your usual streaming hours, enable Streamlabs to open at sign-in, then launch it and verify your setup and live status after a restart.
Before an update: keep Windows restarts out of your streaming hours
Some Windows updates require a restart to finish installing. Windows Update lets you schedule a required restart and set active hours to help keep automatic restarts outside the hours you usually use your device.
- Open Windows Update and check whether an update is waiting for a restart.
- If Windows offers a restart schedule, choose a time when you are not streaming or preparing to go live.
- Set active hours around your normal streaming period so Windows can better avoid restarting automatically while you are using the PC.
These settings help manage when Windows restarts; they do not prevent every interruption or make Streamlabs resume a broadcast.
Set Streamlabs Desktop to open when you sign in
On Windows 10 or 11, enable Streamlabs Desktop in Windows startup settings if it appears there. This starts the app at sign-in, not the previous live stream.

- Open Settings > Apps > Startup.
- Find Streamlabs Desktop and switch it on.
- If it is not listed, check Task Manager > Startup apps and enable it there if available.
- If you cannot find it in either list, Microsoft documents adding an app shortcut to the Windows Startup folder.
After Windows restarts: verify the broadcast manually
Once you have signed in, open Streamlabs Desktop and check the scene, audio, stream destination and other relevant settings. Confirm in Streamlabs and on the platform that the broadcast is actually live before leaving the computer unattended. Windows startup settings document opening an app at sign-in; they do not establish that Streamlabs restores a prior live session.
If Streamlabs Desktop will not launch or crashes
Streamlabs’ crash guidance recommends trying these remedies. They are troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed fix.

- Update Windows and graphics drivers. Check for pending Windows updates and install the latest appropriate graphics driver for your hardware.
- Repair or install Visual C++ redistributables. Streamlabs identifies these runtime components as one possible launch dependency.
- Try an administrator launch. Run the installer or app as administrator when troubleshooting permissions or installation issues.
- Check security software. Make sure your firewall or antivirus is not blocking Streamlabs Desktop.
- Reinstall if needed. If the preceding checks do not resolve the crash, Streamlabs includes reinstalling among its troubleshooting options.
If Streamlabs keeps opening as though it were a fresh install
Streamlabs Support says this can happen when background processes have not closed properly. Before resetting the app, close Streamlabs Desktop and check Task Manager for lingering Streamlabs, Electron, OBS or crash-handler processes. End only the related processes you can identify, then reopen Streamlabs Desktop.
Use Clear Cache and Restart only as a last resort. Streamlabs says this option wipes user data and starts the app clean, so preserve relevant settings or configuration before using it.
