First find out where the audio/video mismatch occurs: in Streamlabs Desktop monitoring, a local recording, the YouTube live output, or the YouTube VOD. Those are different signal paths, so a delay setting that might help one can make another worse. Record a short test with the same scene and media source, note whether audio leads or lags and whether the gap stays constant or grows, then compare the recording with what you hear and with a private YouTube test if possible.
Diagnose which output is out of sync
Streamlabs recommends testing with a recording or private stream and reviewing the resulting VOD before changing audio settings. See Streamlabs’ live-stream audio guidance. A mismatch heard in headphones is not, by itself, evidence that viewers hear the same problem.
- Monitoring only: Your headphones sound out of sync, but the local recording and YouTube output are aligned. Investigate the monitoring path.
- Local recording: The recorded file is out of sync. The issue is present before or during recording, so inspect source timing and routing.
- YouTube live output or VOD: A private test or its VOD shows the mismatch. Check the output-producing source and its routing; do not assume a monitoring adjustment will fix the stream.
- Fixed gap or increasing drift: A steady lead or lag points to a different pattern than audio that gradually falls further behind. Note when the mismatch starts and whether it changes over time.
Make one controlled change at a time and produce another short test. The official pages cited here do not establish a universal media-source sync-offset value, so do not guess one.
Check media-source and mixer routing
In the scene you are testing, inspect the Audio Mixer and the source list for the media source. Streamlabs’ audio guidance recommends checking that audio sources are not doubled or missing. Look for an unintended second route capturing the same sound, a duplicate media-audio path, or a source that is muted or routed incorrectly.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Keep the test scene and media source unchanged while you inspect the mixer.
- Check whether the same audio is entering through both the media source and another capture or desktop-audio route.
- Verify that the intended source appears in the mixer and is not muted; remove or disable only a duplicate route you have confirmed.
- Record another short test and compare it with the first. If the result changes, you have evidence about the route; if not, restore the previous setup before testing another cause.
Streamlabs Desktop labels and available controls can vary by version. Check the settings in the build installed on your computer rather than relying on a control name or location from another version.
Use capture-card settings only for capture-card audio
If the affected audio comes from a capture card, open that Video Capture Device’s properties and check its audio mode and the corresponding mixer device. Streamlabs’ “Streamlabs Desktop – Capture Card Issues/Solutions” describes using “Capture audio only” and leaving “Use custom audio device” unchecked for the setup covered there, with exceptions for particular line-in methods. Confirm that this guidance matches your connection method before changing it; it is not a fix for an ordinary local media file.

Streamlabs warns, in the capture-card context, that “Using Monitor and Output may cause an echo.” If monitoring is enabled, compare Monitor Only, Monitor and Output, and Monitor Off as controlled diagnostic changes appropriate to your setup. Change just one mode, then test again. Do not apply capture-card routing advice to a media source that is simply playing a local video.
If the recording and YouTube output are both out of sync
Once a local recording or YouTube VOD confirms the problem, establish which side is early: does the sound precede the matching picture, or follow it? Then investigate the relevant source timing in the installed Streamlabs Desktop build. The official guidance cited above does not document a universal media-source sync control or a numeric offset that applies to every setup.

- Write down the observed direction and whether the gap is constant or grows over time.
- Change only a timing control that is available for the affected source and that you understand. Do not change multiple sources or routing settings at once.
- Record a new short test using the same scene and media source, then compare it with the previous test.
- If the test worsens the result, undo that single change before trying a different cause.
For persistent problems, provide Streamlabs support with your operating system, Streamlabs Desktop version, media-source type and properties, audio routes, which output is affected, whether sound leads or lags, when any drift begins, and the comparison between a local recording and YouTube VOD. Avoid resetting or deleting configuration as a first response; that can remove useful setup information without identifying the cause.
If only headphone monitoring gradually drifts
When a local recording and YouTube output stay aligned but headphone monitoring gradually drifts, investigate monitoring separately. In an OBS Project forum discussion dated April 24, 2023 onward, contributor Lawrence_SoCal describes how monitoring tied to a physical device’s clock can drift against output following OBS’s clock, and discusses interrupting routing as a possible workaround. This is community guidance about a possible monitoring diagnosis, not proof of a YouTube-output fault or a guaranteed Streamlabs Desktop fix.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep pre-recorded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option, not a repair for sync problems in Streamlabs Desktop. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It accepts the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
