To play video files in a randomized order through vMix to YouTube, add them as a List input, use its Randomise (also called Shuffle) control, keep Auto Next enabled, and turn on Loop if the sequence should restart after its last video. Then start the vMix stream to YouTube. The shuffle is set in vMix, not in YouTube.
Shuffle video files with a vMix List input
- Add the videos. In vMix, add a List input and populate it with the files you want to play. A List treats those files as one input; it also supports M3U files. See the vMix Video List guide.
- Randomize the order. Open the List editing controls and choose Randomise or Shuffle. This shuffles the list order. The documentation does not promise that vMix draws a new random video every time playback advances, so treat it as a reordered sequence rather than per-item random selection.
- Set automatic playback. Keep Auto Next enabled so playback advances to the next item. It is enabled by default according to the vMix guide.
- Choose whether to repeat. Enable Loop if the list should begin again after its final item. Without looping, it will not restart automatically at the end.
- Send the production to YouTube. Configure YouTube as the streaming destination in vMix, then start the stream using vMix’s streaming controls. YouTube is a supported destination; the playback order remains a vMix setting. The vMix product site describes vMix as Windows software and lists YouTube streaming.
Control placement and labels can differ between versions. The detailed List instructions are for the vMix 27 guide, while the official product site advertised vMix 29 when observed in October 2026. If the controls are in a different place in your installation, check the guide for that version.
List and PlayList are different features
A vMix List loads several video files as one input and provides the randomize feature. A PlayList automates switching between inputs; it is not the control that shuffles the videos within a List.

For a straightforward shuffled run of files, use List alone. Add PlayList only when you also need to automate switching among inputs. vMix explains the distinction in its scheduling knowledge-base article.

Random looping is not a time-of-day schedule
A shuffled List can play videos back-to-back and loop, but that does not schedule content to begin at particular times of day. The vMix knowledge-base article says vMix does not provide time-of-day scheduling. It also notes that the older third-party project called “vMix Scheduler” was no longer maintained and might not work with current versions when the article was last updated on January 17, 2025; it is not a verified current solution.

vMix handles the shuffled List locally, so this approach depends on the computer running vMix and its streaming connection.
