First check whether OBS is actually dropping frames. If its dropped-frames counter is rising, investigate your outbound connection and bitrate; if it stays steady while viewers see buffering, check YouTube’s stream health and playback on other devices or networks instead. The two problems have different causes, and “fiber” service alone does not guarantee a stable route to YouTube’s ingest servers.
Start by separating OBS dropped frames from viewer buffering
If OBS shows increasing dropped frames
Watch the dropped-frames counter in the OBS main window while streaming. A rising count points to an unstable connection between your computer and the remote ingest server, or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain. It does not, by itself, prove JioFiber is at fault. OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide (2024-09-30) says dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or the set bitrate cannot be maintained; it also says OBS Studio itself is extremely unlikely to be the cause.
Start with the outbound connection and the stream bitrate, then check the network settings below. Do not begin by changing unrelated video or audio settings.
If the counter stays steady but viewers buffer
That points away from broadcaster-side dropped frames. OBS notes that viewers may still report lag, buffering, or constant loading when the streamer is not dropping frames. Open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect stream health and any specific ingestion warnings. Then check playback on another device and, if possible, another network. Viewer location, device, and connection can all affect playback; YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, but a particular viewer’s device or connection can still be the limiting factor.

OBS’s Stream Buffering Troubleshooting guide (2021-06-09) makes this distinction explicitly. Treat a warning shown for your specific stream as more useful evidence than changing settings at random.
Set a bitrate your stable upload can sustain
Use upload capacity, not download speed, to judge whether your connection can carry a live stream. YouTube recommends that the total stream bitrate stay within available upload bandwidth and suggests leaving 20% of that bandwidth unused as headroom. Other people using the same connection can reduce what is available to your stream.

OBS offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when lowering bitrate to address dropped frames. This is a general troubleshooting rule, not a JioFiber-specific measurement or guarantee. Real conditions and the route to YouTube’s ingest server vary, so change one setting at a time and observe the counter and YouTube stream health.
Use the recommendation for your codec and format
YouTube publishes bitrate recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, its current encoder guidance recommends 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. H.265 and AV1 recommendations differ. These are platform recommendations, not measurements of JioFiber performance; check YouTube’s current table for the row matching your codec and profile instead of treating either example as universal.

Check YouTube’s encoder requirements
YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended keyframe interval of two seconds, with a maximum interval of four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension to RTMP.
In OBS, open Settings → Output and check that the streaming encoder is using CBR and the bitrate you intend. In the encoder’s keyframe interval field, use 2 seconds. At 30 fps, that interval equals 60 frames. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance warns that keyframes sent too infrequently can cause buffering, so correct a keyframe warning in Live Control Room before trying unrelated changes.

Change OBS network settings one at a time
These controls are from OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide (2024-09-30). Their availability can differ by OBS version and operating system.
- Lower the bitrate: open Settings → Output and reduce Video Bitrate. Stream for long enough to see whether dropped frames stop increasing before making another change.
- Try another server if available: open Settings → Stream and select a different server where the service offers that option. This can help isolate a route-specific problem; changing servers is not itself a fix for an underlying connection issue.
- Check Bind to IP: open Settings → Advanced → Network and set Bind to IP to Default.
- Test IPv4 only: in Settings → Advanced → Network, try IP Family set to IPv4 Only. If it makes no difference, return to the IPv4 and IPv6 default.
- On Windows, test optional network controls if present: OBS lists Enable network optimizations and Enable TCP pacing as options some users report benefit from. They may not be available on every platform.
- Consider dynamic bitrate as a fallback: Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta) may reduce dropped frames when the link cannot keep up, but it does not resolve the underlying cause and may reduce video quality.
Test the local network without assuming a JioFiber router fix
Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If you are streaming over Wi-Fi, test a wired Ethernet connection. OBS recommends wired networking when Wi-Fi instability may be involved. If the wired test is steadier, the Wi-Fi leg deserves attention; that result does not prove the wider JioFiber route is healthy or mean that buying a new cable is automatically necessary.
Best Value

Check software, drivers, and equipment
- Temporarily test whether a VPN, firewall or antivirus, or bundled network prioritization or optimization software is interfering. OBS’s security-software guidance is to test temporarily, add an OBS exception if needed, and turn protection back on.
- Check whether the network adapter driver is outdated.
- Restart the modem or router for general connectivity trouble. OBS suggests considering hardware replacement only as a diagnostic after considering the ISP’s advice.
- Do not rely on a router-menu path or port-forwarding recipe without verified instructions for your exact router and firmware. No particular JioFiber router model or current JioFiber outage is established here.
Test latency only when the symptoms fit
YouTube’s latency settings involve a tradeoff: lower stream latency can mean more buffering during playback. If viewers buffer while OBS remains stable, compare the available latency modes in Live Control Room rather than assuming the lowest-latency choice will fix playback. Change it only as a test, then check viewer playback again.
When to contact your ISP, and what to record
If lowering bitrate, testing a wired connection, and checking relevant software and network settings do not resolve broadcaster-side dropped frames, OBS recommends contacting your ISP. Routing or congestion beyond your home network may be outside your control. Give support evidence they can investigate rather than only saying the stream buffers:
- When the issue happened, including the date and time.
- Your OBS log and the dropped-frames percentage.
- The selected bitrate, resolution, and frame rate.
- Whether the test used Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- Any YouTube Live Control Room stream-health warnings or ingestion errors.
- Whether the same stream behaves differently using another service or connection.
