Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First identify whether the buffering is in the FFmpeg-to-YouTube feed or in viewers’ playback. For an incoming-stream warning in YouTube Live Control Room, check FFmpeg, the source, encoding load, keyframes and measured upload capacity. If the incoming stream is healthy but viewers still buffer, investigate stream latency and their playback conditions too. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering because the player has less time to build a buffer. Airtel should not be blamed without evidence from your own connection and the time the problem occurs.
1. Identify where buffering occurs
Incoming stream or encoder problem
Compare FFmpeg’s output and preview with the stream-health status and error messages in YouTube Live Control Room. If YouTube reports an unstable incoming stream, dropped frames or a keyframe problem, start with the source, FFmpeg settings, computer load and outbound connection.
Viewer playback problem
If FFmpeg and YouTube report a healthy incoming stream but viewers see buffering, do not assume the Airtel upload is at fault. YouTube says lower stream latency can increase playback buffering because viewers’ players have less time to build a buffer. Check the latency mode and whether the issue affects particular viewers or playback conditions. YouTube’s latency guidance explains the trade-off.
2. Check FFmpeg, the source and computer load
Before changing broadband settings, rule out problems upstream of the network. YouTube recommends checking the encoder, CPU load and source, and inspecting a local recording when stream quality is poor. A source file or capture device can be at fault even when the broadband connection is fine.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Read FFmpeg’s output around the time the problem occurs for encoder, input, audio/video or connection errors.
- Check that the input continues to deliver audio and video and that the encoder is not overloaded.
- Watch CPU use during the stream. If it is high or encoding falls behind, reduce encoding load or use a less demanding output setting, then retest.
- If you record a local archive, inspect it. A defect present in the recording points toward the source or encoding path, not necessarily the connection to YouTube.
YouTube’s live-streaming troubleshooting guide says that if the stream looks and sounds healthy in the encoder, the outbound internet connection may be at fault; test the connection and contact the ISP if the test identifies a problem.
3. Match bitrate to sustained upload capacity
Measure upload speed on the same network used by FFmpeg, not just download speed. YouTube cautions that download speed is often higher than upload speed and recommends keeping 20% headroom: the total stream bitrate should not exceed 80% of the available upload bandwidth. Leave room for audio and other household or network traffic as well.

The following are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates for ingest, not measurements of Airtel service or a guarantee that your line can sustain them. Guidance checked 2026-10-03. Compare the total stream bitrate with the upload capacity you can sustain during the affected period.
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
For example, a 10 Mbps video stream alone calls for at least 12.5 Mbps of available upload to preserve 20% headroom; the actual total stream bitrate, including audio, must fit within the capacity. If upload varies, use a lower bitrate or resolution and frame rate, then test again. Repeat speed tests during the time the issue occurs if it is intermittent. This is a practical diagnostic step, not evidence of an Airtel-wide fault.

4. Verify YouTube-compatible FFmpeg output settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 or AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Its specific bitrate recommendations above are for H.264. Use settings supported by your FFmpeg build and YouTube workflow, and test before relying on them live.
- Rate control: use CBR as recommended by YouTube, and choose a bitrate that fits measured upload capacity with headroom.
- Keyframes: check the actual emitted cadence. YouTube warns that keyframes not sent often enough can cause buffering; target two seconds and do not exceed four.
- Resolution and frame rate: lower one or both for a controlled test if upload capacity is marginal or variable.
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest. Confirm the destination and stream key are correct for the selected protocol.
FFmpeg options apply to the next input or output file and reset between files. When reviewing a command, confirm that codec, rate-control, keyframe and output-format options appear before the output URL they configure. The official FFmpeg command-line documentation and protocol documentation explain option placement and RTMP publishing. Do not copy a stream key into shared logs or support posts.

5. Use this diagnostic sequence
- Compare status and logs: note whether viewers buffer or Live Control Room reports an incoming-stream problem. Save the relevant FFmpeg messages and YouTube health warnings.
- Check source and machine: verify the input, audio/video and CPU load before changing network settings.
- Measure outbound speed: run an upload test on the streaming connection, ideally during the affected period. Compare sustained upload with total stream bitrate and retain YouTube’s 20% reserve.
- Run a lower-load test: reduce resolution, frame rate or bitrate enough to create headroom. Test with representative motion and audio, and monitor YouTube stream health.
- Escalate with evidence: if FFmpeg is healthy but upload tests show an outbound connection problem, contact Airtel with timestamps, measured upload results and relevant errors.
The evidence available does not establish an Airtel-wide issue, upload performance for any particular Airtel plan, or a current Airtel remedy. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends contacting the ISP when a connection test finds a problem.

RTMPS is RTMP over a secure SSL connection, and YouTube recommends it for secure ingest. FFmpeg documents RTMP options such as buffer duration and TCP keepalive; those may be worth inspecting when diagnosing connection behavior, but changing them is not established as a fix for inadequate upload capacity, packet loss or provider congestion.

YouTube also supports HLS ingest for workflows requiring capabilities such as certain HDR or codec combinations. HLS uses HTTPS, TS segments and a rolling playlist, and YouTube says it has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. Choose it for compatibility or workflow needs, not as a blanket cure for buffering. See YouTube’s HLS ingest guidance.
7. What to record before contacting Airtel
- Exact times buffering occurred and whether it was viewer playback or an incoming-stream health warning.
- Relevant FFmpeg errors and YouTube Live Control Room messages.
- CPU load, source, resolution, frame rate, video and audio bitrates, and keyframe interval.
- Whether you used RTMPS, plus outbound speed-test results and the network conditions during each test.
