1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen a GStreamer input file ends, it can send end-of-stream (EOS) downstream; with no more buffers, the live output has nothing to send. That is not, by itself, a caps-negotiation failure. First check whether the pipeline receives EOS at the file boundary. If the broadcast should continue, supply the next intended media and handle the transition without ending the live pipeline. If the logs show a caps error, inspect the formats on both sides of the boundary and normalize incompatible raw video formats with suitable conversion elements.
First determine whether the stream ended cleanly or caps negotiation failed
A finite file reaching its end is normal. GStreamer reports that a stream has ended through EOS, which propagates through the pipeline; the pipeline can then post an EOS message. If the source has no more buffers, the live encoder and output cannot continue producing media from that source alone. Caps negotiation is a separate issue: it concerns the formats of buffers accepted by connected elements, and a negotiation failure needs to be confirmed from the actual error or debug output.
So the word “freezes” is not enough to identify the cause. The output may have stopped because input ended as designed, or a transition to subsequent media may have failed. The pipeline description, installed GStreamer version, bus messages and caps at the boundary are needed to distinguish those cases. See the GStreamer design overview and pipeline manipulation documentation.
Diagnose the file boundary in this order
-
Check for EOS at the moment playback stops
Inspect the application’s bus messages around the file boundary. If the pipeline receives EOS, the immediate issue is that input ended; do not label it a caps problem unless there is also evidence of a negotiation error.

Audit appsrc’s EOS call and buffer caps
If the pipeline uses
appsrc, check whether the application callsgst_app_src_end_of_stream()after pushing the last intended buffer. The appsrc documentation says to signal EOS when the application has finished pushing data. Also check that any caps set on appsrc are fixed and describe the buffers actually pushed. Buffers must match those caps, or caps should be left unset. See GstAppSrc. -
Log caps on both sides of the transition
Record the actual caps for the final frames from the ending file and the first frames from the next file. Compare caps at the source and immediately before the encoder or muxer. This reveals whether the next input differs in format, dimensions or other negotiated properties, and whether a specific downstream link rejects it.

Separate the EOS and negotiation-error branches
If the bus reports EOS without a negotiation error, fix the input sequencing. If it reports a caps negotiation error, examine the boundary caps and the affected elements. GStreamer documents that negotiation can fail after pipeline topology changes and that inserting appropriate converters is a usual way to handle incompatible formats.
Keep the broadcast alive across files
Decide what the application should do after each file: loop the same file, advance through a playlist, hold on a continuing source, or end the broadcast. Then implement that behavior by supplying further intended media. A single finite file cannot keep a live output active after it has ended.

For appsrc, do not treat EOS as a temporary pause. After appsrc has sent EOS, it cannot accept more buffers until a flushing seek or a transition through READY. Arrange the reset or source-transition sequence deliberately; the correct design depends on whether the desired behavior is looping, playlist advance, holding or stopping. The API behavior is described in the appsrc documentation.
Stabilize caps when successive files differ
If the boundary logs show that successive raw video inputs have incompatible formats, use suitable conversion elements so the downstream path receives a stable format. A capsfilter can establish that downstream format, but choose its concrete caps only after inspecting the inputs and the encoder’s requirements. Do not copy a resolution, frame rate or pixel format from an unrelated example: the appropriate values depend on this pipeline.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Keep the live encoder and muxer in a stable negotiated configuration where possible, and confirm the caps again immediately before them across the transition. A converter is not a substitute for feeding more data after EOS, and fixed appsrc caps do not make buffers match automatically. They describe the buffers the application supplies; the application must keep that description accurate.

- The complete source-to-sink pipeline description, including whether the source is appsrc.
- The installed GStreamer version.
- Bus EOS and error messages from just before and after the file ends.
- The caps on outgoing buffers near the boundary and immediately before the encoder or muxer.
- The intended post-file behavior: loop, advance, hold or stop.
With those details, the repair can target the real branch: input sequencing if the pipeline simply receives EOS, appsrc reset behavior if input is being resumed incorrectly, or conversion and caps negotiation if the transition produces incompatible formats.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is simply to keep pre-recorded videos live on YouTube rather than to debug a GStreamer application, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. This is a YouTube service for uploaded videos, not a fix for a GStreamer pipeline or a camera-based live stream. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
