For an audio-led stream with mostly static visuals, start by testing XSplit Broadcaster at 1080p30, H.264, 5 Mbps, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps. If your upload connection or computer has less headroom, test 720p30 at 3 Mbps instead. These are starting points based on YouTube’s encoder guidance—not music-specific presets or guarantees of uninterrupted streaming.
Recommended XSplit settings to test first
| Setting | 1080p30 starting point | Lighter 720p30 option |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps | 1280 × 720 at 30 fps |
| Video codec | H.264, if available for the selected output | H.264, if available for the selected output |
| Video bitrate | 5 Mbps, YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30 | 3 Mbps is YouTube’s listed minimum; 8 Mbps is its recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30 |
| Rate control | CBR | CBR |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | 2 seconds |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | |
YouTube lists 2 seconds as the recommended keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, but XSplit’s available encoders depend on your hardware, installed drivers, and selected service. Choose a compatible codec that XSplit actually offers; do not assume every system exposes the same options or change advanced parameters speculatively. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and XSplit’s advanced encoder settings guidance.
The 720p30 bitrate figures are YouTube’s general H.264 table values, not a music-stream preset. A mostly static image may look acceptable at a lower practical bitrate than fast-moving video, but that is something to validate in your own test. YouTube automatically detects encoder settings by default and transcodes for viewer playback; choose a format your encoder and connection can sustain reliably.
Set up the scene and YouTube output
- Build the scene. In XSplit, create a scene and add the visual and audio sources you intend to use. A scene is a layout containing sources. Set the canvas resolution and frame rate before going live. XSplit’s broadcast setup guide explains the platform setup workflow.
- Connect the YouTube broadcast. Use XSplit’s YouTube platform setup, then confirm the intended channel and live event in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder requires a stream URL and stream key; treat the key like a password and do not share it or display it in your scene.
- Configure the output. Open the output’s properties and check resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate mode, bitrate, keyframe interval, and audio encoding against the table above. XSplit advises leaving most advanced encoder settings at their defaults unless a platform requirement or advanced configuration calls for a change.
- Test privately or unlisted. Send a test using the actual music and visuals. Check YouTube Studio’s stream health and messages, and watch from a separate device to confirm the picture appears and the audio plays as expected. YouTube recommends testing before a live stream and monitoring its health during the event.
- Re-test after changes. Repeat the check after changing XSplit, drivers, sources, or your network. A successful short test is useful evidence that the setup works under those conditions, not a guarantee that a longer broadcast will stay up.
Match quality to your computer and upload connection
Bitrate is only one part of a stable stream. Measure upload bandwidth under realistic conditions, including the times you expect to broadcast, and leave room above the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom. A connection that barely meets the video bitrate can become unreliable when other devices or services use bandwidth.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Try 1080p30 at 5 Mbps if the stream benefits from sharper artwork or on-screen text and your encoder and connection sustain it.
- Try 720p30 if reducing network or encoding load matters more than extra visual detail. YouTube’s H.264 table gives 3 Mbps as the minimum and 8 Mbps as the recommended bitrate for this format.
- Check the audio as carefully as the picture: listen for clipping, silence, dropouts, and unintended desktop sounds before leaving a music stream unattended.
- If the stream is background listening and does not rely on live audience interaction, lower latency may matter less. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering; choose latency settings with the viewer experience in mind.
YouTube cautions that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. Monitor stream health rather than treating a bitrate setting as a fix for an unstable connection. Its encoder guidance and streaming tips describe the platform’s current recommendations.
Plan for a 24/7 broadcast’s limits
No XSplit setting in the cited setup guidance guarantees a 24/7 broadcast, automatic recovery, or a particular restart schedule. Treat continuous operation as an operational task: monitor stream health, have a way to notice a failure, and decide how you will restart the broadcast if needed.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 broadcast falls outside that stated condition, so do not assume YouTube will save the entire continuous stream as one archive. Check YouTube Studio’s current workflow and plan separately if you need recordings of the music stream.
Check music rights before going live
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, and temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the content remains. For licensed third-party music, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent an interruption. Use music for which your channel has appropriate rights and platform clearance. Review YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance before broadcasting.
