XSplit Broadcaster Bandwidth Usage for 24/7 YouTube Streaming in India

XSplit data use depends on combined stream bitrate and hours—not a fixed monthly figure. See 24/7 estimates and how to check your YouTube output settings.

XSplit Broadcaster does not use a fixed amount of data: your configured video-plus-audio bitrate and streaming time determine the upload volume. Estimate decimal data with GB = combined bitrate in Mbps × 0.45 × hours. At 6 Mbps, nonstop streaming is about 64.8 GB per day or 1,944 GB over 30 days, before network overhead, reconnects, and other household use.

Bandwidth rate versus data used

Upload bandwidth is a rate, measured in megabits per second (Mbps); data use is an accumulated volume, measured in gigabytes (GB). A stream running at the same bitrate for longer sends more data. XSplit’s recommendation of 5 Mbps upload for HD is a capacity recommendation, not a monthly data allowance. XSplit lists 500 kbps minimum upload speed for its lowest live-streaming settings and recommends 5 Mbps for HD quality (XSplit system requirements).

The calculation here estimates the encoded stream sent from your connection. It is not the data viewers use to watch the stream, and it does not mean that merely having XSplit installed or open consumes the estimated amount.

Estimate your XSplit data use

Add the video bitrate and audio bitrate configured for the YouTube output. A megabit is one eighth of a megabyte. At a steady 1 Mbps, the stream sends about 0.45 decimal GB per hour: 1 Mbps × 3,600 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000 MB per GB. Multiply that hourly rate by the combined bitrate and the hours you plan to stream.

Combined stream bitrate Approx. per hour Approx. per 24 hours Approx. per 30 days
1 Mbps 0.45 GB 10.8 GB 324 GB
6 Mbps 2.7 GB 64.8 GB 1,944 GB
8 Mbps 3.6 GB 86.4 GB 2,592 GB
12 Mbps 5.4 GB 129.6 GB 3,888 GB
17 Mbps 7.65 GB 183.6 GB 5,508 GB

These are calculations at a constant rate, not measurements of an XSplit session. A variable-bitrate stream may average below its configured peak, but a sustained-rate estimate is useful for conservative planning. An ISP or router may report binary GiB or TiB rather than decimal GB or TB, so its displayed totals can differ slightly.

What YouTube bitrate settings mean for 24/7 data use

YouTube’s current H.264 live encoder recommendations specify video bitrates of 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 720p60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30, and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Its advanced settings recommend 128 kbps stereo audio (YouTube live encoder settings). Adding the audio rate gives these estimated continuous-use totals:

720p60 8.128 Mbps 87.8 GB 2,634 GB
1080p30 14.128 Mbps 152.6 GB 4,579 GB
1080p60 17.128 Mbps 185.0 GB 5,550 GB

The table applies YouTube’s listed H.264 video rates plus its recommended stereo audio rate to the constant-rate formula; it is not an India-specific measurement or a test of XSplit. Your actual output settings may differ. Higher bitrate can support better image quality, but it increases both the upload capacity required and the data sent.

Check the selected YouTube output in XSplit

  1. Open the output properties. In XSplit Broadcaster, open the properties for the YouTube output you plan to use. Note its video bitrate and audio bitrate; XSplit exposes these separately. Available codec choices depend on the hardware, drivers, and platform support. See XSplit’s output settings guidance.
  2. Calculate the combined rate. Add the video and audio figures, then multiply by 0.45 for estimated GB per hour. Multiply that result by the planned streaming hours for the total.
  3. Run XSplit’s bandwidth test. Use the tester for the selected output/server. XSplit says its bandwidth tester reads the streaming configuration, specifically the video maximum bitrate (MBR) and audio bitrate (ABR) (XSplit Bandwidth Tester Guide).
  4. Test representative content and monitor stream health. Use typical motion and audio, and watch YouTube’s stream health indicators. YouTube advises that the total stream bitrate must fit within the available upload bandwidth (YouTube streaming tips). XSplit’s guidance also recommends comparing measured capacity with the configured bitrate and allowing for other devices sharing the connection (XSplit bandwidth tester guidance).
  5. Check your ISP’s actual data policy and meter. Review your plan’s cap and fair-use terms, then compare measured usage during a representative test. For nonstop streaming, budget for overhead, reconnects, and other household traffic in addition to the encoded stream.

Planning nonstop streaming in India

There is no universal India-wide broadband or mobile-data allowance established for nonstop streaming. Caps, fair-use policies, and usage-meter rules depend on the individual ISP plan and can change. Check the terms for your own fixed-line or mobile connection rather than assuming an allowance applies across India.

The calculated totals represent the stream’s estimated outbound data only. Network overhead, reconnects, local recording, and other devices or applications using the same connection can raise observed plan usage. A 24/7 service should also have enough sustained upload capacity: a plan’s headline speed does not establish that it will maintain your selected bitrate continuously.

Common problems and what to check

  • Measured ISP usage is higher than the estimate: the formula excludes network overhead, reconnects, and unrelated traffic. Compare the ISP meter over a representative period and account for other devices and applications.
  • The stream health indicator reports connection problems: the combined video and audio bitrate may be too close to or above available upload capacity, or other devices may be using the connection. Run XSplit’s output bandwidth test, monitor the connection, and lower bitrate or resolution if it cannot sustain the selected rate.
  • Your daily or monthly total differs slightly from the table: the table assumes a constant bitrate and decimal GB. Variable bitrate changes the average, while meters using GiB/TiB display different units.
  • You are treating XSplit’s HD upload recommendation as a data allowance: 5 Mbps describes recommended upload capacity for HD, not the amount of data used over a day or month. Estimate volume from the configured combined stream rate and duration.
