No—not if the computer is running the encoder or providing the video. Shutting it down stops that feed from reaching YouTube. To keep a broadcast going, both the video source and the encoder must keep running independently of the computer. “Astra Streaming” is also ambiguous: the located Astra Streaming Studio listing describes an Android streaming app, not a service confirmed to take over a PC’s existing feed.
What happens to YouTube Live when the computer shuts down?
YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder, such as broadcasting software on a computer or a standalone hardware device. If the computer is the encoder—or the only source of the video—turning it off stops the feed. YouTube’s encoder instructions put it plainly: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
The source matters as much as the encoder. A separate encoder cannot keep sending PC gameplay, a desktop capture, or a webcam feed that exists only on the computer after that computer is shut down. To continue, the source and the encoder must both remain available elsewhere.
Does Astra Streaming take over the computer’s stream?
The name does not identify a confirmed PC-stream takeover feature. The located Astra Streaming Studio listing on Google Play describes an Android app for mobile streaming and lists RTMP support. It does not document handing off an existing desktop encoder’s feed or continuing that feed after the PC shuts down. The listing was updated October 31, 2023, so check its current setup guidance and test the intended phone and source before relying on it.

PC-only gameplay, desktop capture, or webcam
Keep the computer awake with the encoder running, or move both the source and encoding to another system. A hardware encoder alone will not preserve a source that disappears when the PC powers down.

Live camera or another independent input
A standalone hardware encoder can send an independent source to YouTube while the computer is off, provided the encoder, source, network connection, and power remain available. YouTube lists hardware encoders, including the AJA HELO Plus, in its encoder guidance. This is a separate setup, not a handoff of a PC-only feed.
Prerecorded video
A hardware feature or hosted service intended to schedule or loop prerecorded media may work without a home computer. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes the AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream feature for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live, as well as cloud-streaming products for continuous prerecorded streams. Check source-format support, scheduling controls, account requirements, runtime limits, service terms, and cost before choosing one; these capabilities do not establish an Astra cloud-video feature.
