This guide means Astra Streaming Studio by MIV Dev, whose Google Play listing describes streaming from an Android mobile device and identifies H.264/AAC encoding, RTMP and RTMPS, recording, image or slideshow overlays, and scene switching. The listing was updated on 31 October 2023; it does not establish a minimum Android version, recommended phone, or dedicated YouTube connection.
You can start with an Android phone you already own if it is compatible with the app. No particular phone model or extra accessory is established as necessary for this workflow.
Prepare YouTube Live before configuring Astra
- Verify your YouTube channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s eligibility guidance requires these conditions for live streaming: YouTube live-streaming eligibility.
- Enable live streaming ahead of your first broadcast. YouTube says initial activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until the event is about to start: YouTube Help.
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live. Create a stream or select one already set up, then open its stream settings.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a public screenshot, recording, or broadcast.
Connect Astra Streaming Studio to YouTube
- Open Astra Streaming Studio and set up the video and audio sources or scene you intend to broadcast. The app listing describes scene switching and image or slideshow overlays; use a visual appropriate to your music channel.
- Find the app’s streaming destination or server settings. Choose RTMPS if Astra offers it; YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Astra’s listing confirms support for both protocols but does not document the exact screen or field names.
- Enter the YouTube server URL in the server or URL field and the YouTube stream key in the corresponding key field. Confirm that the selected protocol matches the URL YouTube supplied.
- Start sending the stream from Astra. In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and check stream health or status messages. For a scheduled broadcast, follow YouTube’s on-screen instructions for when to select Go live.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test before the public broadcast. Include representative audio and movement, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages rather than assuming that a successful connection means the final audio and picture are sound.
Encoder settings for a stable music stream
Astra’s listing confirms H.264 video and AAC audio, but it does not document the full settings interface or every available option. YouTube’s general encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, H.264/H.265/AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). - Resolution and frame rate: choose a setting the phone can encode reliably and that suits the visual content. Higher resolution or frame rate is not automatically better for an audio-led broadcast.
- Bitrate: use a value within YouTube’s recommendation for the selected resolution and frame rate. Test the actual upload connection under conditions similar to the broadcast; no minimum speed for this specific Astra-and-channel setup is established.
- Keyframes and rate control: use a two-second keyframe interval and CBR if the app makes those options available.
- Audio: listen for clipping, hum, dropouts, and unwanted room noise in the test. Set an undistorted input level and keep the phone’s connection stable.
Clear Hindi music rights before the stream
A song’s language or popularity does not establish that you may broadcast it. A track can involve separate rights in the composition and the sound recording, and permissions can depend on the rights holders, territory, and type of use. Attribution, a consumer music subscription, or simply being able to play a song does not by itself demonstrate permission for a YouTube livestream.
YouTube for Artists advises: “If you’re planning on using copyright-protected music during your live stream, we recommend coordinating with your label or distributor to avoid any issues, such as copyright strikes.” See Going Live for Music Channels. Contact the relevant rights holders or their authorized representatives and confirm that the specific recordings and compositions are cleared for live streaming in the territories where you expect viewers. A static image or slideshow does not change the music-rights requirements.

Common setup problems and what to check
- YouTube does not show an incoming stream: check that the stream is enabled, that the server URL and key were copied correctly, and that Astra is sending via a protocol supported by both sides. If you reset the YouTube key, replace the old key in Astra.
- Live streaming is unavailable: verify channel eligibility and complete activation; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Preview arrives but playback stutters: check YouTube’s stream-health messages, lower the encoder load or bitrate if needed, and retest on a stable upload connection.
- Audio clips or drops out: check the source and input level in Astra, then make another test with the same audio setup planned for the broadcast.
- The app’s labels do not match these steps: the documented sources do not establish Astra’s exact menu names. Look for the RTMP/RTMPS destination, server URL, and stream-key fields; do not assume a YouTube-specific preset exists.
