You can try again later or switch to offline mode” means Ubisoft Connect could not reach a Ubisoft service; it does not identify the cause on its own. Check Ubisoft’s service updates first, then fully close and update Ubisoft Connect PC. If the problem continues, reset the launcher cache and check your connection and security software. Offline mode may help only with games and features that support it.
What the error means
The message can appear when signing in to Ubisoft Connect or launching a game that opens the launcher. It could reflect a service-side problem, an outdated or malfunctioning client, or a local connection or security block. The wording alone cannot tell you which one applies.
Ubisoft Help says the related errors “Service is unavailable” and “A Ubisoft Server is unavailable” occur when Ubisoft Connect PC is outdated, and notes that this commonly happens when installing an older game from disc. That guidance makes updating a sensible early step, but it does not establish that every instance of the longer message has the same cause. See Ubisoft’s guidance on those related error messages.
Try these fixes in order
1. Check for a Ubisoft service issue
Look at Ubisoft’s Help site Live Feed Update for planned maintenance or service degradation. If Ubisoft services are affected, local cache changes or firewall adjustments will not repair the service-side problem; wait and try again later.

2. Fully close and update Ubisoft Connect PC
- Exit Ubisoft Connect PC.
- Check the Windows system tray and close the client there too if it is still running.
- Install the newest Ubisoft Connect PC version, then launch it and try again.
Closing the client completely matters: an old instance may remain open in the tray. Ubisoft specifically recommends this close-and-update process for its related “Service is unavailable” errors.
3. Reset the Ubisoft Connect cache
Ubisoft says emptying the client cache can resolve some technical issues. Follow its official cache instructions:

- Log out of Ubisoft Connect PC and close it completely, including from the system tray.
- In File Explorer, find the cache folders. Ubisoft lists these default locations:
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game LaunchercacheandC:Users<Username>AppDataLocalUbisoft Game Launchercache. - Rename the cache folders rather than deleting other Ubisoft folders. Installation locations can vary.
- Restart Ubisoft Connect PC. The client should create fresh cache folders.
4. Check your internet connection and security software
- Confirm that other sites or online services load normally.
- Check that Windows Firewall allows Ubisoft Connect. If you use another firewall or antivirus product, review whether it is blocking the client.
- If the connection itself seems unreliable, restart your router and try again.
Ubisoft Support has suggested cache, firewall or antivirus, and router checks in responses about this and similar connection errors. These are troubleshooting checks, not guaranteed fixes. A 2025 Ubisoft Support reply also recommends allowing Ubisoft Connect through Windows Firewall and consulting Ubisoft’s connectivity and performance guidance if needed.
Can you switch to offline mode?
Only if the game and the content you want to access support offline play. Ubisoft’s Terms of Use say that internet access, a Ubisoft account, and Ubisoft Connect may be required to install, launch, access, or unlock some games and content; some games and features require a permanent online connection. Selecting offline mode cannot bypass those requirements.

Some players have reported that offline mode was unavailable until they had signed in online on that same computer. That is an individual report, not a universal Ubisoft rule, so treat it as a possibility rather than a requirement for every game.

Contact Ubisoft Support with the game, platform, Windows version, Ubisoft Connect version, when the error began, and the steps you have already tried. Ubisoft’s adjacent technical guidance asks users with persistent issues for DxDiag and MSInfo reports; provide them if Support requests them rather than assuming they are required for every case.
