A working local preview in datarhei Restreamer does not confirm that YouTube is receiving the stream. Check the outbound YouTube Publication Service, its bitrate and process logs, and the matching event in YouTube Live Control Room. Also confirm which product you mean: datarhei Restreamer and Restream.io are separate services with different connection paths.
First, identify which Restreamer you are using
“Restreamer” can mean datarhei Restreamer, self-hosted streaming software, or Restream.io, a hosted multistreaming service. Their interfaces and connection models differ. The steps below are for datarhei Restreamer; if your screen is Restream.io, use the separate Restream.io YouTube connection guidance instead.
Check the product name in the interface and note its version. datarhei’s troubleshooting pages may show labels that have changed between versions, so rely on the process status and logs as well as the exact UI wording.
How to find where the stream is failing
Treat the stream as separate links in a chain: source input, local player, outbound Publication Service, network transport, and YouTube’s event and ingest. A live source or player proves only that the local part is working; it does not prove the Publication Service is sending data to YouTube.

| Layer | What to check | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Video input and local player | Whether the source is active and the local player displays it | Confirms the source reaches Restreamer, not that YouTube receives it |
| YouTube Publication Service | Whether the intended service is active, its displayed bitrate, process details, and errors | Shows whether the outbound publication process is connected and sending |
| YouTube Live Control Room | The intended event, encoder feed or preview, and any displayed error | Confirms what YouTube is receiving for that event |
| Encoder and network | Process errors, stream health, and outbound connectivity | Helps isolate an encoding or transport problem if the destination settings appear correct |
Check the YouTube Publication Service in datarhei Restreamer
- Open the active YouTube Publication Service. Verify that it is the service intended for the event that appears offline.
- Check its destination configuration. Confirm that the YouTube streaming ID or key is valid and belongs to the intended event. Avoid sharing the key in screenshots or support requests.
- Save the service and inspect its status. Restreamer’s YouTube guide says the live-stream bitrate appears in the main window once the service connects. If no active publication or bitrate appears, do not assume the local preview means YouTube is receiving the stream.
- Open the publication process details and logs. Look for startup failures, connection errors, or other messages that explain why the outbound process is not active. Restreamer’s troubleshooting separates video input, player streaming, and Publication Service faults.

Confirm the YouTube event and stream key
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and select the event you intend to stream to.
- Check for an incoming encoder feed or preview and read any status message YouTube displays. Compare that evidence with the Publication Service’s status and bitrate.
- Verify the destination details in Restreamer against the stream URL and key for that event. A key for a different event can send the feed somewhere other than the event you are checking.
- Replace the key only when the evidence points to a key problem. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends obtaining a new key and updating the encoder when it reports a startup error; resetting a key is not the first fix for every offline label.
See YouTube’s live encoder settings for how the stream URL and key are used, and its live streaming troubleshooting guidance for encoder errors and stream health.

Isolate source, process, and network problems
- Try a virtual or test source. If the test source also fails to reach YouTube, focus on the Publication Service, its process errors, destination settings, and the outbound network path.
- If the test source works, return to the original input. Check the input itself and its transport path, then follow the chain from source through hardware and network to Restreamer settings.
- Check encoder status and messages. YouTube recommends ensuring the encoder is current and checking its stream health and error messages.
- Investigate outbound connectivity if the encoded stream looks healthy but YouTube receives no feed. A healthy-looking local stream does not rule out a failure between Restreamer and YouTube.
What to send support if the status is still inconsistent
Collect evidence that distinguishes the layers instead of sending only “offline.” Include:
- The datarhei Restreamer version and the exact status text.
- Whether YouTube Live Control Room shows an incoming preview or an error, and which event you checked.
- The relevant destination settings with the stream key redacted.
- The Publication Service process details and logs, plus a process report.
Restreamer’s troubleshooting guide asks users to attach a process report when opening an issue after initial checks. Never include an unredacted stream key.

End a live event in the right order
For a live event, datarhei’s YouTube guide advises ending the stream on YouTube first. Stopping the stream in Restreamer while it is live may prevent YouTube from saving the DVR archive. Follow the guide’s event-ending sequence rather than treating the Publication Service stop as interchangeable with ending the YouTube event.
