Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor the YouTube-facing connection, use RTMPS rather than SRS WebRTC. SRS documents an FFmpeg-based workflow that turns a prerecorded file into a live RTMP stream, while YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingest. SRS WebRTC is useful for a separate real-time publishing or playback leg; the documentation reviewed here does not establish it as a direct YouTube ingest protocol.
That distinction matters: a prerecorded YouTube channel can involve a file-to-SRS leg, an optional SRS WebRTC leg, and a YouTube-facing ingest leg. They are not interchangeable choices for sending a file straight to YouTube.
What RTMP and WebRTC do in an SRS workflow
| Question | RTMP/RTMPS | WebRTC in SRS |
|---|---|---|
| Documented role | SRS describes RTMP publishing to platforms such as YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS for its ingest. | SRS documents WebRTC publishing and playback, including conversion between RTMP and WebRTC. The reviewed sources do not establish direct WebRTC ingest by YouTube. |
| Best fit here | The publishing path into YouTube, using the current endpoint and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. | A defined real-time publishing or playback connection served by SRS, such as browser viewing. |
| Setup to check | Correct YouTube URL, path and key; RTMPS encryption and port requirements; encoder settings. | Reachable candidate address and UDP mapping in the documented example; HTTPS for browser publishing from a non-local context. |
| Decision | Choose this for the YouTube-facing leg. | Add this only if the SRS workflow needs a real-time WebRTC leg. |
This is a comparison of documented roles, not a latency benchmark. No end-to-end latency measurement for this architecture is established by the cited documentation.
How to send prerecorded video through SRS to YouTube
1. Match the documentation to your SRS release
Use the guide for the version you actually deploy. SRS v6’s ingest page is marked stable; the retrieved v7 RTMP page is marked unstable, and the v5 RTMP page is archived. Examples can differ across releases, so do not assume a command from one version is production-ready for another. See the SRS v6 ingest guide, SRS v7 RTMP guide and archived SRS v5 RTMP guide.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Ingest the file to SRS
SRS documents using FFmpeg or another tool to ingest files such as MP4 or FLV and publish them to SRS over RTMP; converting video on demand into a live stream is an explicit use case. Configure that file-to-SRS step using the ingest instructions for your SRS version. The documented pattern does not by itself establish a tested command or a production-ready looping schedule, so verify how your chosen FFmpeg and SRS configuration handles file completion and repeat playback.
For a self-hosted setup, SRS and FFmpeg need to run on a machine or hosted compute environment that remains available for the duration of the stream. A VPS or other cloud compute is a conditional option, not a requirement if you already have suitable always-on infrastructure.

3. Set the YouTube-facing publishing path to RTMPS
In YouTube Live Control Room, use the current stream URL and stream key for the broadcast, then configure the publishing path that feeds YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS, and its developer guidance specifies RTMPS transport, a valid server and path, and port 443. Follow the exact endpoint and values displayed for your stream rather than copying an old URL from an example. See YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not include it in public configuration examples, logs, screenshots or source control.
- Check that the selected endpoint, path, encryption and port agree with YouTube’s current instructions.
- Confirm that your SRS/FFmpeg publishing arrangement supports the chosen RTMPS destination; YouTube’s recommendations do not guarantee every build or binary supports every transport and codec combination.
4. Check encoder settings before going live
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for codec, bitrate, frame rate, resolution, keyframes and audio. The guidance recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, with an interval no longer than four seconds. It lists 44.1 kHz stereo audio or 48 kHz for 5.1 audio, with 128 Kbps stereo or 384 Kbps 5.1 audio. These are YouTube recommendations, not proof that a particular SRS build or FFmpeg binary supports every combination. Check the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance before configuring a stream; platform recommendations can change.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
5. Add WebRTC only when you need that SRS leg
If viewers or a publisher need an SRS WebRTC connection, configure it separately from YouTube ingest. The SRS WebRTC documentation includes candidate-address and UDP mapping considerations, and advises HTTPS for browser publishing outside the local context. Confirm the network path is reachable in your own deployment and consult documentation matching your SRS version; the cited WebRTC guide is for SRS v4. See SRS WebRTC documentation.
Copyright, stream keys and channel readiness
A transport protocol does not grant rights to rebroadcast a video. Before using prerecorded material, confirm that you own it or have permission for the video, music, images and other included content. YouTube’s live access and content rules can also change; check the current requirements in YouTube Help and Live Control Room before scheduling a channel. A working RTMPS connection cannot prevent a copyright claim, a blocked broadcast or a channel-policy issue.

- Use the intended stream key and avoid exposing it; rotate it in YouTube if it is accidentally disclosed.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test where available, and verify that YouTube receives stable video and audio before relying on a scheduled broadcast.
- Review any notices in Live Control Room rather than treating successful ingest as confirmation that the content is policy-compliant.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely area to inspect | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Wrong endpoint, path, key, transport or port. | Compare the publishing configuration with the current Live Control Room values and YouTube RTMPS requirements. |
| SRS receives the file but YouTube does not | The file-to-SRS leg may be working while the separate SRS-to-YouTube publishing leg is not. | Check each connection independently: file ingest into SRS, then the YouTube-facing RTMPS path. |
| Browser WebRTC publish or playback fails | Candidate address, UDP reachability or browser security context. | Verify candidate IP and UDP mapping for the deployment; use HTTPS for non-local browser publishing as the SRS guide directs. |
| Video or audio is rejected or unstable | Codec, bitrate mode, keyframe interval, frame rate or audio format. | Compare the encoder output with current YouTube recommendations and confirm support in the deployed FFmpeg/SRS versions. |
| The stream stops when the file ends | File ingest may not include a repeat or playlist schedule. | Configure and test looping behavior in the selected ingest setup; the SRS ingest pattern alone does not establish a production looping schedule. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded YouTube channel, StreamNeo avoids maintaining your own SRS/FFmpeg host: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Any uploaded quality streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video to YouTube, not camera-based live broadcasting. See StreamNeo, then start the free first day.
