Players can explore together, ride Torrent, continue after deaths and boss fights, and cross areas that normally separate multiplayer sessions. It still has a host, shared-password sessions, and important limits on progression synchronization. Compatibility can change after game updates, so check the mod’s current release information before installing.
How does Elden Ring Seamless Co-op work?
The mod changes Elden Ring’s multiplayer session structure. Instead of repeatedly summoning and sending players home as the base game normally does, it creates a more continuous peer-to-peer session using Steam networking, according to the mod author. One player hosts; the others join that player’s session with the same password.
Starting and leaving a session
- The host uses the mod item called the Tiny Great Pot to open a session.
- Joining players use the Effigy of Malenia to join the host. All players must have set the same password in the mod’s settings file.
- Players use Separation Mist to leave. If the host uses it, the session ends for everyone.
- The mod’s multiplayer items are added after resting at a Site of Grace.
The author describes the intended experience as playing with friends throughout the game “with no restrictions.” That describes the mod’s aim, not a guarantee that every quest, item, or modded setup behaves identically for every player.
What changes during play?
Players can remain together after deaths and boss victories, move through multiplayer fog barriers and their associated teleports, and explore the open world on Torrent. The mod also synchronizes waypoints and NPC dialogue. Resting at a Site of Grace resets the world for the group, and certain online progression events also advance in players’ own worlds. Players can split up rather than being tethered to one another.

Can you play the whole game together?
You can play much more continuously as a group than in standard co-op, but “together” does not mean that every player receives identical progression in every circumstance. The official FAQ describes the arrangement as “coop, not an MMO”: the host’s world and progression still matter.
Progression and quest caveats
- A joining player’s progress may not synchronize if the host is less advanced.
- Some shop and crafting availability rules depend on the host’s progress.
- Quest progression can be erratic, particularly when players have different world or quest states.
- Some pickups are instanced; other items need to be collected separately by each player.
If players are at substantially different points in the game, back up saves before the session. That is especially important if you care about preserving quest and event flags.

What do you need to install it?
- Every participant needs a unique Steam copy of Elden Ring.
- Everyone must use the same game version and the same Seamless Co-op version.
- Players must be signed into Steam and not playing in offline mode.
- Each player needs the same session password configured in the mod settings.
The official guide says to download the latest version manually from Nexus Mods; Nexus’s Mod Manager is not required. Because compatibility changes with updates, use the mod’s current release information rather than assuming an older game-build and mod-version pairing still works.
How do you install Seamless Co-op on Windows?
- In Steam, open Elden Ring’s local files, then open the
Gamefolder. - Extract the downloaded mod archive into that
Gamefolder. - Open
SeamlessCoop/ersc_settings.iniand set the co-op password. Give the same password to everyone joining the session. - Return to the
Gamefolder and runersc_launcher.exeto start the modded game. - If installation is successful, the official guide says the Easy Anti-Cheat splash screen should not appear.
How does setup differ on Linux?
The official guide’s Linux route is through Steam and Proton: add ersc_launcher.exe as a non-Steam game, then choose a Proton version in that entry’s Compatibility settings. The guide suggests Proton 8.0 or 7.0 if you are unsure which to select. This is the documentation’s recommendation, not a guarantee for every Linux system or hardware configuration.

Does Seamless Co-op work with other mods?
Compatibility with other mods is not guaranteed, and the author cautions that combinations—especially overhauls—have not been tested comprehensively. The official modding guide recommends that everyone in a group use the same mods, except for personal visual mods, and that those mods match the Elden Ring version in use.
Start Seamless Co-op through its own launcher or through ModEngine2. The guide says DLL injectors such as Elden Mod Loader and Lazy Loader will not work in this setup. If a mixed-mod session fails, first check that every player has matching game, Seamless Co-op, and gameplay-mod versions.

Do saves and progress carry over to vanilla Elden Ring?
The mod uses a separate save extension—.co2 by default—rather than the base game’s .sl2 save. The author warns against moving mod saves into vanilla play. The official FAQ explains a manual way to copy a vanilla save into a separate mod save when needed, but treat that as a deliberate file operation and preserve a backup before changing saves.
Can you get banned, and is it safe?
The mod author says Seamless Co-op prevents connections to FromSoftware matchmaking servers, uses a different save extension, and runs with Easy Anti-Cheat disabled. The author says this design prevents bans unless a player modifies the mod to connect to vanilla players. That is the mod author’s description of the design, not an unconditional guarantee from FromSoftware or a promise that every misuse is risk-free.

What happens after an Elden Ring update?
Game updates can break mods, including Seamless Co-op, until the mod is updated. All players need matching game and mod versions to connect. The official sources do not establish a specific compatible game-build and mod-version pair for October 3, 2026, so check the current mod release information and update notes before a session. Revisit ersc_settings.ini after updates because its fields may change.
How does the mod affect difficulty and invasions?
Group play can make encounters easier because players can divide enemy attention. The mod offers configurable scaling and describes death-related rot debuffs as a balancing mechanic. Invasions can be enabled through settings, so they are not categorically impossible; the experience depends on the settings in use. The practical trade-off is persistent group exploration and fewer session interruptions in exchange for a different challenge balance and multiplayer feel from the original co-op structure.
What should you know about bugs and compatibility?
The author describes the project as beta, notes that testing every route and mod combination is not possible, and warns that it is not bug-free. Treat it as an ambitious community modification: expect that a patch, quest state, or mod combination may introduce problems, and keep backups of saves you value.
