Full answers for game #925
Spoilers below: Each group contains four tiles.
- INFLUX: RASH, RUSH, SURGE, WAVE
- SUBSEQUENT: COMING, FOLLOWING, FUTURE, LATER
- KINDS OF CARDS: BUSINESS, GREETING, MEMBERSHIP, PLAYING
- COLORS MINUS LAST LETTER: BROW, CYA, PIN, WHIT
Why the purple group works
Add one final letter to each purple tile to make a color: BROW becomes BROWN, CYA becomes CYAN, PIN becomes PINK, and WHIT becomes WHITE.
Why two groups can look alike
COMING can suggest an influx, but in this puzzle it belongs with FOLLOWING, FUTURE, and LATER in SUBSEQUENT. The groups are designed to be tricky because words can plausibly fit more than one category; the New York Times Help Center describes that as an intentional feature of Connections.

How Connections works
Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four based on a shared feature. The categories are color-coded Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple, with Yellow the easiest and Purple the trickiest. The New York Times Help Center says: “Each puzzle has exactly one solution and is meant to be tricky by having words that could fit into multiple categories.”
