Rematch did not have crossplay when it launched on June 19, 2025. Sloclap later added cross-platform matchmaking and friend play with Patch 3 on September 5, 2025. Crossplay lets players on different platforms play together; it does not mean their progress transfers between platforms.
Was Rematch crossplay available at launch?
No. On June 16, 2025, Sloclap announced that crossplay between Steam, PlayStation and Xbox would not be ready for launch. GameSpot listed Rematch’s full release date as June 19, so the announcement came three days before release. GameSpot’s report records the announcement.
The launch status is now historical: crossplay was subsequently enabled. Players checking older launch coverage should distinguish that initial delay from the feature’s later availability.
Why was crossplay delayed?
Sloclap said Rematch was the studio’s first crossplay title and that unforeseen technical complexities prevented the feature from being ready in time. The studio also apologized for not communicating the delay sooner. In its launch-priorities statement, Sloclap said crossplay was its “absolute highest priority” alongside bug fixes and promised a more precise deadline when it could provide one.

When did crossplay arrive in Rematch?
Crossplay went live with Patch 3 on September 5, 2025, according to Sloclap’s September 5 Mini Dev Update. A preceding patch post had described September 3 as a target if deployment went as planned; that was a tentative date, not the actual activation date. The later Season 1 announcement also described playing with friends on any platform.
What does Rematch crossplay include?
Sloclap describes crossplay as cross-platform matchmaking and social features, including inviting and playing with friends on other platforms. In practical terms, players on Steam/PC, PlayStation and Xbox can play together rather than being restricted to people on the same platform.

Patch 3 information also said players could disable crossplay. Sloclap recommended leaving it enabled for faster matchmaking. If a group cannot find one another, check that crossplay is enabled before assuming the platforms are incompatible.
Does crossplay transfer your progress between platforms?
No such transfer was planned in Sloclap’s September 2025 update. Crossplay is about playing together across platforms; cross-progression is the separate feature that carries account progress from one platform to another. The two should not be treated as interchangeable. Sloclap’s statement describes its plans at that time, not a guarantee about future changes.

What Sloclap said about playing with friends
The headline phrase “The Whole Point Was to Play With Friends” is not reliably attributable to a named speaker in the available reporting. A clearly attributed statement comes from Pierre Tarno, Sloclap’s creative director, in an Xbox Wire interview published July 24, 2025: “Rematch is, at its heart, a social experience,” and “It’s about playing with friends, sharing great plays, and having fun together.”
Tarno also said that more than three million Xbox players had joined Rematch within a week of launch. That is an Xbox-specific figure reported by Xbox Wire, not a total across all platforms or a stated count of unique players. Xbox Wire noted the game launched day one with Game Pass.
