To get started with Streamlabs Talk Studio, open it in a supported browser, sign in or create a Streamlabs account, allow camera and microphone access, then choose whether to broadcast or record. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide recommends Chrome or Safari and a stable connection; its bandwidth figures are vendor recommendations, not performance guarantees.
Before you open the studio
Check your browser and connection
Talk Studio is browser-based, so Streamlabs says you do not need to install software. The official guide recommends Google Chrome or Safari and a stable internet connection, preferably Ethernet. Its guide, last updated October 1, 2025, gives these upload recommendations:
| Target resolution | Upload required | Upload recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p | 10 Mbps | 20 Mbps |
These are Streamlabs’ published setup figures, not independent tests or a promise that a particular connection will produce a particular result. See Streamlabs’ Talk Studio getting-started guide.
Have your devices ready
Connect the camera and microphone you plan to use before entering the studio. Talk Studio’s setup guide does not require a particular microphone model or an external microphone. A built-in mic can be selected if that is what you intend to use.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sign in and open Talk Studio
- Open Streamlabs’ Talk Studio page.
- Sign in with an existing Streamlabs account, or create a Streamlabs ID and verify your email when prompted.
- If you already use Streamlabs, the official login guide lists Streamlabs ID, email, and several platform login choices. It advises Ultra subscribers to use Streamlabs ID unless Streamlabs Support directs them otherwise. See Streamlabs’ login guide.
- Continue into the browser studio and wait for the camera and microphone preview to load.
Allow and check your camera and microphone
- When the browser requests camera and microphone access, choose Allow.
- Select the intended camera and microphone in the studio’s device controls.
- Check that the preview shows the right camera and that the microphone is registering sound before adding guests or going live.
If the browser never showed a permission prompt, open its site controls for Talk Studio, permit camera and microphone access, then refresh the page if needed. The exact permission menu varies by browser and version; Streamlabs’ guide describes using the browser’s site controls rather than prescribing one universal menu path.
Choose between going live and recording
To broadcast
Add or select the destination or destinations you want to use. Enter the stream title, description, and any relevant platform category in the destination setup, then review your camera, microphone, and layout before choosing Go Live. The available destination steps can vary by platform; Streamlabs’ onboarding guide covers the studio flow, while the support index links to additional destination guides.

To record without broadcasting
Before beginning a recording-only session, open Settings > Output and enable Cloud Recording and/or Local Recording. Then start the recording from the studio instead of starting a broadcast. Recording controls and options are described in Streamlabs’ recording guide.
Pick the recording mode that fits your edit
| Mode | What you get | Useful when | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud Recording | A complete recording and an audio-only downloadable file | You want a finished session file without separating each speaker during editing | Download important recordings before the applicable retention period expires |
| Local Recording | Separate audio and video tracks for each participant | You want to adjust speakers independently in post-production | Streamlabs says local recording is not supported on mobile devices |
Streamlabs does not establish a comparative quality or reliability advantage for either mode in these guides. Choose based on the editing files you need.

Add guests and bring them into the show
- Choose Add Guest and copy or email the invitation link.
- Guests arrive in a queue. When ready to include one, select Show on stream to move that guest into the editor.
- Check the guest’s audio after bringing them into the show. Streamlabs notes that “A guest’s microphone will not sound until they are moved to Show on stream.”
A cohost can be invited through the Team section. According to Streamlabs’ getting-started guide, a cohost can manage guests, design elements, layouts, intro/outro video, and configuration. For more detail, use the official Talk Studio getting-started guide.
End the session and save your files
- For a live broadcast, choose End Stream.
- For a recording-only session, choose Stop Recording.
- If you stream and record together, Streamlabs says ending the stream also ends the paired recording.
- Download recordings you need before the applicable storage-retention period expires.
Streamlabs’ recording guide, last updated September 16, 2025, lists maximum session lengths of 4 hours on Standard and 10 hours on Pro. These are the limits stated in that guide; plan details can change. The same guide says local recording is unsupported on mobile devices.

Common setup problems
- No camera or microphone prompt: Check the browser’s site permissions for Talk Studio, allow the devices, and refresh the page if needed.
- The wrong camera or mic is active: Select the intended input in the studio’s device controls, then verify the preview and audio before starting.
- A guest is visible but inaudible: Move the guest from the queue to Show on stream; Streamlabs says their microphone is not heard until then.
- You cannot find a saved local track on a phone or tablet: Local recording is not supported on mobile devices according to Streamlabs’ recording guide; use Cloud Recording or record from a supported computer setup.
- A recording ends when the live show ends: This is expected when streaming and recording together; Streamlabs ties the paired actions, so ending the stream also ends that recording.
- You need a recording longer than the session limit: The official guide lists a 4-hour maximum for Standard and 10 hours for Pro. Check the current plan and recording guidance before planning a longer session.
Or let it run in the cloud
Talk Studio is for browser-based live sessions and recordings. If your separate goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream looping 24/7, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps it running without leaving a computer or home connection on. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
