To schedule nature videos for YouTube Live, schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio, then use a playback source and encoder to send the videos in order when the event is due to start. Scheduling creates the YouTube event and watch page; it does not make a YouTube playlist play automatically inside a live broadcast.
What scheduling a YouTube Live playlist actually involves
YouTube treats the broadcast and the incoming video feed as separate parts. A broadcast is the event viewers watch on YouTube; a stream is the audio-video feed sent by an encoder. You need both: schedule the broadcast, then supply the nature footage through a playback tool and encoder. YouTube’s documentation explains that a broadcast represents an event viewers can watch as it happens: Google’s Live Streaming API guide.
A YouTube playlist by itself is not a live feed. Arrange the videos in a playback source that can send its output to the encoder, whether that is a computer-based setup or a supported dedicated device.
Prepare the videos and playback source
- Choose the videos and order. Make a list of the nature clips in the sequence you want viewers to see. Check that your playback tool can advance through the files and, if needed, repeat them.
- Check the output path. Confirm how the playback source will feed the encoder—for example, through the computer’s streaming software or a compatible hardware workflow. Test playback and audio before scheduling the event.
- Check rights and YouTube policies. Use footage and audio you own or are licensed to stream. A scheduled broadcast does not grant rights to third-party recordings, music, or other material. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance and applicable copyright requirements before going live.
Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Open Manage, then choose Schedule stream.
- Enter the event details, including its title, planned time, and privacy setting. Scheduling lets you share the watch page, promote the event, and allow viewers to request reminders; see YouTube’s scheduling instructions.
- Save the scheduled event and copy its watch-page URL if you plan to share it.
Connect an encoder and start the feed
- Open the scheduled event’s stream settings in YouTube Studio and retrieve the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your stream.
- Enter the server URL and stream key in your software or hardware encoder. Configure the encoder to take input from the playback source containing your nature videos.
- At the planned time, start playback and begin sending the encoder feed. Check that YouTube’s Live Control Room preview shows the intended video and audio.
- Follow the event’s current start behavior. Depending on the event and settings, you may need to select Go live in Live Control Room, or the broadcast may start automatically when the encoder sends the feed. Confirm the available controls before airtime rather than assuming a particular auto-start setting.
YouTube’s official setup details and current interface labels are in its Help Center instructions for scheduling a stream. Interface wording can change, so check the controls shown for your event before the scheduled time.

Choose a playback and encoder setup
| Setup | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Computer and software encoder | YouTube supports software encoders generally, and OBS has guidance for using scheduled broadcasts. The OBS community guide was last updated October 8, 2021, so its specific interface steps may no longer match current labels: OBS’s YouTube streaming guide. | The computer, playback source, and network must be available for the full stream. Verify that playback advances or loops as intended, and plan what you will do if playback, the encoder, or the connection stops. |
| AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder | YouTube lists HELO Plus as a verified encoder. AJA describes PlayToStream as a prerecorded-media playback option for streaming directly to YouTube Live without a computer. The product page lists streaming capability up to 1080p60: AJA HELO Plus. | PlayToStream is an optional, separately licensed feature, not something to assume is included. Confirm the license, supported media and storage, connections, and current price before buying. YouTube’s verified-encoder information is at YouTube’s encoder list. |
HELO Plus is one hardware route, not a required purchase. Whether it is worthwhile depends on your need for unattended playback and the cost of the hardware and optional license.
End the broadcast and check the archive
When the program is over, end the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed according to your setup. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume the same automatic archive behavior for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and playback problems
- The event page exists, but no video appears: scheduling created the broadcast, not the feed. Start the playback source and encoder, and check the server URL and stream key in the encoder.
- The preview is blank or shows the wrong clip: confirm the encoder is receiving the intended playback output, that the selected file is playing, and that any capture or input source is set correctly.
- The event is not live at the scheduled time: check whether the encoder is sending a feed and whether Live Control Room requires you to press Go live. Verify the event’s start behavior in the current interface.
- The playlist stops after one video: check the playback tool’s advance or repeat settings. A YouTube playlist does not sequence prerecorded footage into the live feed on its own.
- The broadcast ends unexpectedly: check the encoder, playback source, and network connection. With computer-based playback, the computer must remain available; with hardware playback, check the device and its media path.
- You cannot use a video or hear its audio: confirm that you have the rights to stream both the footage and audio and that the encoder is receiving the intended audio source.
