If audio gradually slips out of sync with video during a 24/7 YouTube lecture stream, first check whether the drift is present in the public stream and local recording—or only in your monitoring. A fixed offset and a gap that grows over time are different problems: an audio delay adjustment may address a stable offset, but it will not necessarily correct accumulating drift. Compare the stream near startup and later, then investigate sample-rate consistency, separate device clocks, encoder health, and YouTube’s stream-health messages.
First identify where and how the sync problem occurs
Do not diagnose from one viewer report or from your headphones alone. Compare three paths: the public YouTube stream, the encoder’s output or local archive, and the operator’s audio monitoring. Note whether the audio/video gap is already present at startup and remains roughly constant, or increases as the stream runs.
- Public stream and local archive both drift: Look upstream at the audio sources, clocks, OBS configuration, and encoder performance.
- The archive is synchronized but the public stream is not: Review YouTube’s stream-health information and the encoded output; the problem may be in the streaming or ingest path.
- Only the operator’s monitoring sounds out of sync: Investigate the monitoring route separately. OBS forum discussion describes monitoring-buffer behavior that can diverge from stream output, but that community report does not prove the cause in every setup.
YouTube recommends checking encoder output and a local archive when troubleshooting. A viewer-side delay before the lecture appears is not, by itself, evidence that audio is progressively slipping relative to video.
Use the pattern to choose the right fix
If the offset is stable
When the mismatch is about the same near startup and later, record its direction and approximate size, then check source routing and encoder output. A fixed sync adjustment may be worth testing for a stable offset, but verify it in both the stream and archive. Do not assume a one-time offset will solve a gap that grows with runtime.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the gap gets worse over time
A growing mismatch points toward timing or performance behavior rather than a simple fixed delay. Check sample rates and whether separate audio devices run on independent clocks before trying an offset. OBS’s asynchronous-audio-filter project explains that audio sources may run on their own clocks relative to OBS’s operating-system clock; timing differences can eventually cause buffer underrun or overflow. That makes clock mismatch a plausible cause, not a certainty for every stream.
Check sample rates, devices, and audio routing
- Compare the configured sample rates. Check OBS and the audio devices feeding it. Use consistent settings where possible, and inspect device formats rather than assuming that two devices with the same nominal rate share a clock.
- Inventory every audio source. List microphones, USB capture devices, interfaces, desktop audio, and any backup or secondary audio stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance flags incorrect audio sample rates and multiple audio streams; it also recommends matching primary and backup stream sample rates.
- Isolate independent devices. If a microphone and capture device use separate hardware clocks, test with one source at a time or route sources through a shared interface. OBS community guidance describes a shared interface as a possible option to test—not a guaranteed cure.
- Review routing and buffering. Confirm the intended sources are reaching the stream and archive, and distinguish encoder audio from audio heard through OBS monitoring. Change one relevant setting at a time so you can tell what affected the result.
Review YouTube and encoder health
Inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages alongside OBS’s encoder status and the local archive. Check for audio sample-rate errors, unintended multiple audio streams, dropped or delayed encoder output, and unusually high encoder CPU load. YouTube advises testing before going live, using representative audio and motion, monitoring health messages, and checking the local archive. As YouTube Help puts it: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”

Do not confuse stream latency with audio/video drift. Latency is the delay between capture and playback for a viewer; it does not establish that audio is progressively slipping relative to video. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering, so changing latency settings is not a demonstrated repair for accumulating sync drift.
Retest safely on a 24/7 channel
- Save the current known-good OBS and device configuration before making changes.
- Choose a representative test with the same audio sources, video movement, and routing as the lecture stream.
- Compare sync near the beginning and later in the test in both the public stream and local archive. The cited guidance does not specify a universal test duration; use a test long enough to see whether the gap grows.
- Change one relevant variable, then repeat the comparison. Keep notes on sample rates, connected devices, and the observed offset or drift.
- Schedule disruptive tests when an interruption is acceptable. If the stream must remain live, prefer checks that do not require changing its active audio path until a test window is available.
Common symptoms and what to try
| What you observe | What it suggests | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| The mismatch is similar at startup and later. | A stable offset, rather than demonstrated accumulating drift. | Check source routing and encoder output; test a fixed adjustment only against both stream and archive. |
| The gap grows as the stream runs. | A timing or performance issue may be accumulating. | Compare sample rates, isolate independent audio devices, and review encoder health. |
| Only your headphones or OBS monitoring sound wrong. | The monitoring path may differ from broadcast output. | Compare the public stream and local archive before changing the stream mix. |
| YouTube reports audio warnings or the stream has multiple audio tracks. | Ingest settings or track configuration may be relevant. | Check sample rate and primary/backup stream matching, then verify intended audio routing. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a continuously running YouTube lecture loop rather than a live camera production, StreamNeo is an alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Video streams as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
