The best fit depends on whether you want to keep grouping ideas or switch to finding, building or guessing words.
Which daily puzzle is most like NYT Connections?
Connections is built around grouping words that share a common thread, according to The New York Times’ games catalog. Among the alternatives listed by the publishers, LinkedIn Pinpoint is the closest match by premise: LinkedIn describes it simply as “Guess the category.” That makes it the first one to try if category inference is the part of Connections you enjoy most. The official listing does not explain Pinpoint’s full rules, so check the game itself for how a round works.
Other options keep the daily word-puzzle habit but change the central task. NYT Strands and Washington Post Wridges are word-search-style choices; Spelling Bee and Keyword focus on making or finding words from letters; Wordle asks you to narrow down one answer by guessing. They are alternatives, not direct Connections copies.

The NYT’s current games catalog lists Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, The Crossword, The Mini Crossword and Pips. The Mini is presented as a bite-sized crossword, while Pips asks players to place dominoes. These are good adjacent choices if you want a varied daily routine, though they move beyond word grouping.

LinkedIn Games
LinkedIn’s daily-game collection includes Pinpoint and Patches, as well as Wend, Mini Sudoku, Zip, Tango, Queens and Crossclimb. Patches is described as “Piece it together,” but the official listing does not explain its mechanics further. Treat it as a title to explore, rather than assuming it plays like Connections.
Washington Post Games
The Washington Post games catalog lists Keyword, Wridges and Daily Word Search alongside other games. It also includes On the Record, which the publisher calls “A quotable news quiz.” On the Record is an adjacent daily puzzle option, not a word-grouping substitute. The Post’s daily-games catalog describes its games as free online.

A publisher’s catalog listing does not establish that every game is free, available in every region or playable without an account. Check the individual game page for its current access terms before making it part of your routine; the Washington Post’s daily-games page specifically describes its games as free online, but that statement should not be generalized to the other publishers.

If you want the closest category-based alternative, start with Pinpoint.
