Dragon Quest XI S on Nintendo Switch 2 offers two officially specified display modes: Performance targets 1080p at 60fps, while Graphics targets 1440p at 30fps. Square Enix has not published measured load-time comparisons, so there is no reliable official figure for how many seconds faster the Switch 2 version loads.
What performance modes does Dragon Quest XI S have on Switch 2?
Square Enix lists two modes for the Switch 2 edition. The figures below are the publisher’s specifications, not an independent measurement of frame pacing or a guarantee that every scene holds its target without fluctuation.
| Mode | Official specification | What it prioritizes |
|---|---|---|
| Performance | 1080p at 60fps | Higher frame rate |
| Graphics | 1440p at 30fps | Higher image quality |
These are the documented trade-offs: choose Performance for the higher frame-rate target or Graphics for the higher resolution target. Square Enix does not provide further technical detail about how the two modes behave in individual scenes. Square Enix’s product-specifications FAQ lists both options.
Are load times faster on Switch 2?
Square Enix has not published measured load times for the Switch 2 edition or a timed comparison against the original Switch version in the official information cited here. That means there is no supported number of seconds or percentage improvement to quote, and the published resolution and frame-rate targets do not establish which mode loads faster. The official specifications FAQ and Square Enix e-STORE listing provide no such measurements.

What changes between the Switch and Switch 2 editions?
Square Enix says the game content remains the same between the Switch and Switch 2 versions, while graphics specifications differ by console. The Switch 2 release adds the choice between a mode prioritizing image quality and one prioritizing frame rate; the official release notice does not describe new story content. Square Enix Support explains the graphics-specification difference, and the Japanese release notice describes the new mode options.
Does Switch save data transfer to the Switch 2 edition?
Square Enix’s FAQ says demo save data cannot be transferred between platforms, specifically noting that a Nintendo Switch demo save cannot be carried into the Switch 2 retail version. Separately, Nintendo Life reported that save data from the existing Switch retail edition is incompatible with the Switch 2 edition. Treat those as distinct cases: the first is the publisher’s stated demo-save rule, while the retail-save incompatibility is reported by the outlet. Square Enix’s FAQ covers the demo example.

What to know about the Japanese physical edition
The Japanese physical release is a key card rather than a conventional game card containing the full software. Square Enix e-STORE says the game downloads on first play, requiring an internet connection and at least 30 GB of free storage; the listing notes that the required space may change. This information applies to the Japanese listing and should not be assumed to describe every regional edition. Square Enix e-STORE’s product page gives the format and download requirements.
The Japanese release notice gives a release date of September 24, 2026, and lists the standard edition at ¥5,478 including tax. That is the Japan-specific announced price, not a global price. Square Enix’s Japanese announcement contains the date and price.
