For the clearest chance to see its results, enable Enhance PSSR Image Quality on the console, confirm the TV is receiving the output modes it supports, and set HDR deliberately. TV picture controls such as sharpness and motion interpolation have no universal recommended values for PSSR; results vary by game and display.
Enable the PS5 Pro’s PSSR image-quality option
- On PS5 Pro, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Set Enhance PSSR Image Quality to on. Sony says it is on by default and available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. It can improve image stability in certain games designed for original PSSR; it is not a global setting that applies to every game. Sony’s PS5 Pro page lists supported Enhanced PSSR titles and notes that results vary by title.
PSSR itself is performed by the console, not added by the TV. Sony describes it as an AI library that analyzes game images pixel by pixel as it upscales them. In a February 27, 2026 PlayStation Blog announcement, PS5 and PS5 Pro lead architect Mark Cerny said it had been used to boost the effective resolution of “over 50 titles on PS5 Pro to date.” That figure is time-specific, not a promise that every title uses PSSR or that every game will show the same improvement. Read the announcement.
Check what the TV is actually receiving
In Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, leave Resolution on Automatic unless you have a reason to select a specific output. Sony says Automatic selects the highest resolution the connected TV supports. Open Connected HDMI Device information to check what the console detects for resolution, HDR, and VRR. The TV’s supported modes and the HDMI input in use determine which output options are available. Sony’s PS5 resolution and video-output guidance explains the console options.
For display comparisons, check the resolution and HDR formats, 120 Hz support, VRR support, and whether the particular HDMI input can carry the signal you want. These are compatibility checks, not evidence that a different TV makes PSSR’s processing itself better. You do not need a new TV simply to use PSSR.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set HDR for the content you play
Choose On When Supported if you want HDR games and other HDR content sent in HDR while non-HDR games and apps remain in SDR. Then use Adjust HDR to set the console’s HDR output for your display.
Always On converts non-HDR games and apps to HDR output. That changes the output format; it does not make SDR source content authored in HDR. If you want non-HDR content to retain SDR presentation, use On When Supported instead.

Use 120 Hz, VRR, and ALLM when your setup supports them
- 120 Hz: Enable or use it when the TV and game support it and the game’s mode benefits from it. It affects available output and gameplay smoothness, not the PSSR algorithm.
- VRR: Enable it when supported by the TV and game. Variable Refresh Rate adjusts refresh rate in real time, but Sony notes that behavior and results vary by TV. VRR is not a PSSR setting.
- ALLM: A compatible TV can switch automatically into a low-latency mode. Sony notes that VRR output can trigger low-latency behavior even when ALLM is off.
These features depend on both the game and display. If a mode is missing, check the console’s Connected HDMI Device information and the TV’s specifications for the HDMI input being used rather than assuming PSSR is disabled.
Leave Video Transfer Rate alone unless you are fixing flicker
Keep Video Transfer Rate at its default setting unless you are troubleshooting flicker. Sony recommends trying -1 or -2 if flicker occurs, but those settings limit some output formats or modes, including 4K at 120 Hz. They are troubleshooting options, not image-quality enhancements.

Do not treat 8K as a PSSR upgrade
8K output is relevant only with a compatible 8K/60 Hz display and Display Stream Compression (DSC). Sony notes that VRR is disabled during 8K output. If VRR matters to your setup, 8K output is therefore not a useful route to better PSSR visibility.
TV picture controls: avoid universal calibration recipes
There is no evidence-based universal number for TV sharpness, motion interpolation, noise reduction, local dimming, or tone mapping that applies across models. Those controls differ by manufacturer and picture mode, and an unsuitable setting can change the image independently of PSSR. Use your TV’s game or low-latency picture mode if you want responsive play, but consult instructions for your exact model before changing other picture controls. A setting recommended for one television should not be assumed to suit another.
