Choose Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve if you want a flight-combat game with both a campaign and cross-play online modes, including co-op and PvP events. Choose Project Wingman if you want a single-player-focused experience, or if PC VR and documented HOTAS support matter to you. The available publisher and store information does not establish which game has the better campaign, controls, performance, or overall value.
Which game fits the way you want to play?
| What matters most | Better match based on published features | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Online play with friends or other players | Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve | Bandai Namco describes cross-play online modes, including co-op and PvP events. |
| A single-player-focused flight combat game | Project Wingman | Humble Games presents it as a single-player-focused experience and also lists Conquest mode. |
| PC VR or HOTAS controls | Project Wingman | Its publisher and Steam listings document VR and HOTAS support. Confirm compatibility for your specific headset, controller and setup. |
| Campaign plus online modes | Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve | Bandai Namco lists a campaign alongside online play, with online progression separate from campaign progression. |
| Physical console edition | Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve | Bandai Namco Europe confirms a Standard Edition disc for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in participating markets. |
These are feature-based matches, not a judgment about which game is more enjoyable or better made. The available descriptions are not a head-to-head review.
Does Ace Combat 8 have multiplayer?
Yes. Bandai Namco describes Ace Combat 8 as having cross-play-enabled online modes, including co-op and PvP events. Its online progression is separate from campaign progression, so the publisher describes them as distinct tracks rather than one shared progression path.
That makes it the more directly supported option if playing with others is central to your decision. The published information cited here does not specify player counts, matchmaking details, or whether every online event is available at all times.

What does Project Wingman offer beyond its campaign?
Project Wingman is presented by Humble Games as a single-player-focused combat flight action game. It also includes Conquest mode, described by the publisher as a territory-capture mode where opposition grows more difficult. That gives players a mode beyond the campaign, but the description does not establish online multiplayer; do not assume it offers the same kind of co-op or PvP play as Ace Combat 8.
Does Project Wingman support VR or a flight stick?
For PC players, published listings document both VR and HOTAS support. Humble specifies DirectInput HOTAS support, while the Steam listing names SteamVR, OpenXR and Oculus PC support. These listings do not guarantee that every headset, flight stick, driver, runtime or control setup will work without configuration. Check the requirements for your exact hardware before buying.
