To start the free Fists of Fury DLC in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, update the game, travel to the Horns of the South, and speak with the mysterious traveler (also described as a hermit). Take his lessons to begin the unarmed-combat questline. Questline and Awaken Realms call this release patch 1.30; it is the update referred to as 1.3.0 in this guide.
How to start the Fists of Fury DLC
- Update the game. The official announcement presents patch 1.30 and the free DLC as releasing together.
- Go to the Horns of the South. This is where the official patch notes place the questline.
- Find and speak with the mysterious traveler. The announcement also calls him a hermit. Take his lessons to enter the questline.
- Follow the lessons. They introduce an unarmed build and test you against Avalon’s threats using your fists.
The announcement does not give the traveler’s exact map position or name a prerequisite quest. If you cannot find him, search the Horns of the South rather than relying on an unverified coordinate or assumed quest requirement.
What the DLC adds
Fists of Fury is focused on unarmed combat. Questline describes unarmed combat as a fully supported build, with a weapon category, gear, skill tree, and dedicated teacher. The DLC adds a questline, fistfighting weapons, armor and other unarmed-combat items, plus a new skill tree under Strength.
If the new content is missing
- Confirm the game is updated to the release called 1.30 in the official announcement.
- Check the DLC or entitlement listing for the platform you use. The announcement does not specify installation steps for Steam or PlayStation, so their exact download flow cannot be confirmed from it.
- Xbox owners are explicitly told that Xbox Play Anywhere is supported and that existing owners do not need to do anything extra for the patch and free DLC.
- Once the update and entitlement are confirmed, return to the Horns of the South and look for the traveler.
The announcement does not say that a new save is required.

Update performance claims and Steam Deck modes
Alongside optimization, fixes, and general improvements, patch 1.30 adds two Steam Deck graphics modes. Questline’s announcement describes Quality as targeting about 30 FPS and Performance as targeting 35–40 FPS. It also estimates 5–30 additional FPS on PC, Steam Deck, and Steam Machine depending on setup, and around 2 additional FPS on consoles. These are developer estimates, not guaranteed or independently measured results.
