How to Connect OBS to Facebook Live

Set up OBS for Facebook Live, enter the destination details from Facebook’s current live workflow, test your audio and video, then publish.

To connect OBS to Facebook Live, create your scene in OBS, get the stream details from Facebook’s live-video workflow, enter the destination and stream key in OBS, then start sending video and follow the publishing steps Facebook shows for your account. Facebook’s interface and eligibility rules can change, so use the current live workflow rather than relying on a fixed set of button names.

Prepare OBS before opening Facebook Live

  1. In OBS, open Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow the prompts for streaming. The wizard takes your intended use, computer resources, and network conditions into account; it is a better starting point than copying a universal preset. OBS Quick Start Guide
  2. Create a scene and add the sources you need. For gameplay, OBS supports game capture on Windows; you can also add desktop or window capture, a webcam, or a capture card. A webcam is optional, not a requirement for connecting to Facebook Live. OBS Quick Start Guide OBS Video Capture Devices
  3. Check that the intended microphone and other audio devices are selected, then speak or play audio and watch the OBS audio meters. Confirm that the preview shows the right scene before you connect.

Find Facebook’s stream details

Open Facebook’s current live-video creation flow and look for its option to stream using software. Meta has described computer broadcasts using streaming software or external hardware, with Live Producer as the destination for current help, but the announcement dates to 2017 and does not establish today’s screen labels, eligibility requirements, or key behavior. Meta’s desktop live-video announcement

Use the server URL and stream key shown in the live workflow, if those fields are presented. If the account’s current workflow does not offer software streaming, check Facebook’s current Live Producer help and account-specific guidance rather than assuming the feature or a particular interface is available to every account.

Enter the destination details in OBS

  1. In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
  2. Choose a listed service if the current OBS build offers a working Facebook option. Otherwise, select a custom streaming server and enter the server URL Facebook provides.
  3. Enter the stream key supplied by Facebook. Treat it like a password: do not show it in a screen recording, share it publicly, or leave it visible in a screenshot.
  4. Select Apply and OK. OBS documents the general service/custom-server and stream-key setup, but the available Facebook preset and exact labels can vary by build. OBS Streaming Guidelines

Test the signal, then publish

  1. In OBS, check Settings → Output and confirm the output choices suit your computer and upload connection. Keep the scene, audio meters, and preview in view while testing.
  2. Start a short test stream from OBS. Check the preview and publishing controls in Facebook’s current live workflow; verify the picture and sound before making the broadcast public.
  3. When Facebook receives the signal, follow the publishing steps shown in that account’s workflow. The exact order and labels are not established as universal, so do not assume that starting OBS alone publishes the video.

OBS recommends testing for a few minutes before a first stream instead of jumping straight into a broadcast. OBS Quick Start Guide

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose OBS settings without guessing

Start with the Auto-Configuration Wizard, then adjust output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to what your computer and connection can sustain. A higher frame rate such as 60 fps can put more load on a system than 30 fps. Facebook-specific bitrate limits, resolution ceilings, keyframe intervals, codecs, and stream-key durations are not established by the sources cited here; confirm any such requirements in Facebook’s current live workflow or help before applying them. OBS Quick Start Guide OBS Streaming Guidelines

Troubleshoot a missing or unstable Facebook stream

  • Facebook does not show an incoming signal: Confirm that OBS is using the destination details from the current Facebook session and that the server URL and key were entered in the correct fields. If using an OBS service preset, check whether the current build supports the workflow; try custom server settings only if Facebook supplies the necessary URL and key.
  • The stream key is rejected: Recheck it against the current Facebook workflow and avoid reusing an old or mistyped value. Facebook’s current key validity and reuse rules are not established here.
  • The picture or sound is wrong: Check the OBS scene sources, selected audio devices, meters, and Facebook preview before publishing. A webcam is simply one optional Video Capture Source. OBS Video Capture Devices
  • Dropped frames increase: OBS says this can indicate an unstable computer-to-service connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Check network stability and lower the selected bitrate if needed; consult OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance. OBS sends the stream directly from your computer to the destination service rather than acting as an intermediary streaming server. OBS dropped frames and connection issues
  • The broadcast is not public after starting OBS: Return to Facebook’s live workflow and complete the publishing step it presents; sending a signal and publishing are not necessarily the same action.

Or let it run in the cloud

OBS is the do-it-yourself route for sending a live computer scene to Facebook. StreamNeo is a separate option for a different job: it keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube, not Facebook, and does not stream from a camera. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
