Sucker Punch’s patch notes document fixes for several rare crashes, but they do not establish that any one fix will resolve every player’s problem. For missing or outdated saves, protect existing data before troubleshooting; the official sources reviewed do not provide a universal save-restoration procedure.
First, identify what is failing
Separate a game-only crash from a console-level failure. Note whether the game closes, the PS5 restarts, the image hitches, a mission stops progressing, or the problem appears at the same point each time. A repeatable mission, setting, or action can help you compare your symptoms with the developer’s documented fixes; it does not by itself prove that you have the same bug.
- Game closes or crashes: update first, then check whether the crash is tied to a repeatable trigger.
- Mission will not progress: try the in-game checkpoint and save recovery steps below before changing console settings.
- Save looks missing or old: avoid deleting saved data and preserve the current data before trying anything more involved.
- Game will not start or install correctly: use PlayStation’s general game-start troubleshooting steps.
Install available game and PS5 updates
Check for updates for both Ghost of Yōtei and PS5 system software. Sucker Punch’s support page lists patch 1.602, dated April 24, 2026, with “Various rare crash fixes” under Performance and Stability (Sucker Punch patch notes). That note confirms crash fixes in the game’s patch history, not a universal performance fix or a guarantee that a particular crash is resolved.
If the game crashes or feels unstable
Check for a repeatable trigger
Sucker Punch’s earlier patch notes record fixes for specific rare crashes: patch 1.008 addressed crashes during a Wolf Den mission, while moving the camera during combat with lock-on, and after the game had been idle for more than one hour. Patch 1.010 listed a rare crash with ray tracing enabled and another tied to a particular Poison and Lies sequence (Sucker Punch patch notes). These are historical fixes; the notes do not show how often those problems occur now.

Patch 1.100 also listed various rare crash fixes, along with “Bug fixes and minor adjustments to the autosave feature” (Sucker Punch patch notes). If your crash consistently occurs during one of the documented situations, make sure the game is updated and note the exact trigger if you contact support.
For a launch or installation problem
If the game will not start or appears to have an installation problem, PlayStation’s general guidance is to update the game and console, restart the PS5, and reinstall the game if needed. If it is installed on USB extended storage, move it to console storage. PlayStation also lists Safe Mode cache and database options among its troubleshooting steps (PlayStation game-launch troubleshooting; PlayStation Safe Mode guide). These are general PS5 measures, not confirmed fixes for every in-game hitch or crash in Ghost of Yōtei.

If a mission is stuck
Use the game-level recovery steps in order, starting with the least disruptive. Sony’s Santa Monica Studio support gives these as general PlayStation game troubleshooting steps, not a Yōtei-specific guarantee (Santa Monica Studio support).
- Restart the checkpoint from the game’s menu, if that option is available.
- Load the closest manual save or autosave.
- Quit the game and reload the save.
- Close and reopen the application, then retry.
If a save is missing or out of date
Ghost of Yōtei supports manual save points, according to its official PlayStation listing. When you can access the game, use a manual save point to preserve progress before making further changes. Do not delete saved data as a routine troubleshooting step.

The official sources cited here do not give a Yōtei-specific procedure for restoring a damaged save or resolving every mismatch between local and cloud data. If a save remains missing or appears older than expected, contact PlayStation or Sucker Punch support before taking steps that could overwrite or remove data.

PlayStation describes Clear System Software Cache as an option that may help with system feature issues or performance drops, and Rebuild Database as a process that scans the drive and creates a new content database (PlayStation Safe Mode guide). Neither option is documented as a guaranteed fix for a particular Ghost of Yōtei performance symptom.

Safe Mode options do not all have the same consequences. PlayStation warns that Reset PS5 and Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) delete user data. Back up your data before any destructive action, and do not use a reset as an early response to a game crash. If the console continues to fail after non-destructive troubleshooting, use official PlayStation support or repair channels.
