Full spoilers for Blood and Wine, including the Beast of Beauclair’s identity and the expansion’s major endings.
In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine, Geralt investigates murders in Toussaint and discovers that the crisis centers on Syanna, the duchess’s estranged sister, and Dettlaff, a higher vampire whose response to her actions threatens the duchy. The main branch is whether Geralt pursues Syanna or seeks the Unseen Elder. On the Syanna route, a ribbon can save her from Dettlaff; later choices determine whether she and Anna Henrietta reconcile or die at the palace ceremony.
What happens in Blood and Wine?
Geralt accepts a contract in Toussaint, a duchy whose bright, courtly image contrasts with the killings troubling Beauclair. The expansion’s official announcement describes a land untouched by war, where indulgence and knightly ritual mask a bloody secret. CD PROJEKT RED advertised the expansion in 2015 as a “20-hour-plus tale”; that is the publisher’s estimate, not a guaranteed playtime. CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement and its developer diary introduce the region and the expansion’s place as Geralt’s final mission.
As Geralt and his ally Regis follow the evidence, the case leads beyond a monster hunt and into the duchess’s family history. Syanna, Anna Henrietta’s exiled sister, has been acting under the Rhenawedd identity and pursuing revenge against people connected to her exile. The killings and the court’s response draw Dettlaff into the conflict: his attachment to Syanna turns to fury when he believes she has betrayed him. Syanna is responsible for a revenge plot, while Dettlaff’s retaliation endangers people across Toussaint. The story does not reduce either character to a simple innocent-versus-monster conflict. For a broader plot synopsis, see the Blood and Wine overview.

Who is the Beast of Beauclair?
The Beast investigation ultimately points to Syanna. She is the person behind the Rhenawedd identity and the revenge scheme linked to the murders. Dettlaff is central to the danger facing Toussaint, but the mystery’s answer is not simply that he is the killer responsible for every part of the case: Syanna’s actions and Dettlaff’s reaction drive the crisis together.
Which route should Geralt choose during the Night of the Long Fangs?
At the major branch in “The Night of the Long Fangs,” Geralt can pursue Syanna or seek the Unseen Elder. The route changes how the confrontation with Dettlaff unfolds and which outcomes remain possible.

- Pursue Syanna: This route can take Geralt to the Land of a Thousand Fables. There, he can obtain a ribbon that matters later at Tesham Mutna.
- Seek the Unseen Elder: The Elder can compel Dettlaff to appear. This takes Geralt down a different path from finding Syanna in the fairy-tale land and changes the available outcomes.
These are consequential story routes, not cosmetic variations. The ending guide’s route and outcome overview is available on Steam.
What does the ribbon do?
On the Syanna route, the ribbon obtained from the little girl in the Land of a Thousand Fables protects Syanna when Dettlaff attacks at Tesham Mutna. If Geralt reaches that confrontation without the ribbon, Dettlaff can kill her. The ribbon therefore changes a major character outcome; it is not merely a collectible or costume detail.

How do you get the Blood and Wine good ending?
“Good ending” is a player label, not an objective verdict. The outcome in which both sisters live requires Geralt to pursue Syanna, obtain the ribbon, and make the reconciliation choices that allow the sisters to meet peacefully at the ceremony. The ribbon keeps Syanna alive through the confrontation with Dettlaff; later actions and dialogue decide whether Anna Henrietta and Syanna reconcile. The broad requirements are established, but an exact line-by-line dialogue checklist is not included here.
The most useful way to compare the principal outcomes is by who survives and whether Geralt takes the Syanna or Unseen Elder route:

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can Syanna and Anna Henrietta both survive?
Yes. Geralt can bring about an outcome in which both sisters survive by pursuing Syanna, obtaining the ribbon, and making the reconciliation choices before the ceremony. If the reconciliation fails, the palace meeting can end with Anna Henrietta and Syanna both dead. The sisters’ survival is therefore not guaranteed simply because Syanna reaches the ceremony.
