A stalled download, a slow transfer, an install-directory error, and a game stuck on “Verifying” can have different causes. Start with reversible checks; reinstalling the launcher is a last resort because Epic says it removes games installed through it.
Start with Epic’s service status
Before changing settings on your PC or Mac, check the Epic Games Public Status page. Epic’s general launcher troubleshooting also recommends checking for launcher updates and confirming that the launcher meets its system requirements. If a service-wide problem is affecting downloads, local fixes may not resolve it while the issue continues.
For a game installation, use the steps for the symptom or error you actually see rather than applying every troubleshooting step. Epic publishes separate guidance for stuck downloads, error II-E1003, error IS-0003, and other launcher problems.
If the download is stuck
Epic’s dedicated procedure for a stuck download resets the launcher’s sign-in flow and enables debug logging. Follow it in order:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Sign out of your Epic account and the launcher.
- Open Task Manager and force-close any Epic Games Launcher processes that are still running.
- Reopen the launcher and enable Debug Logging in Settings.
- Return to the login screen and select “Sign In Later.”
- Choose the game you want to download. The launcher will redirect you to sign in.
- Sign in, then choose Download.
This is Epic’s prescribed procedure for a stuck download, not a guarantee against an underlying service or network problem. If the download remains stuck, check service status and use the slow-download checks below if the transfer is moving unusually slowly rather than failing outright.
If you see error II-E1003
Epic describes II-E1003 as the launcher being unable to download the game files needed for installation. Its recommended sequence is to check for a launcher update, verify the game files, clear the launcher cache, reinstall the launcher, and change DNS. Try the less disruptive options first.
- Check for and install any available Epic Games Launcher update.
- Verify the game files using the steps in the verification section below.
- Clear the launcher cache using the platform-specific instructions below.
- Only if those steps fail, consider reinstalling the launcher. Epic warns that this removes all games installed through it, so do not treat it as an early troubleshooting step.
- Changing DNS is another option in Epic’s guidance. Consider it if the download problem appears network-related; it is not a universal fix.
If you see IS-0003 or “Could not create directory”
IS-0003 means the launcher could not create a directory while installing or updating. Epic’s current short procedure is to clear the launcher’s webcache, restart the computer, run Epic Games Launcher as administrator, and try again.

- Clear the launcher cache using the instructions below.
- Restart your computer.
- Right-click Epic Games Launcher and choose “Run as administrator.”
- Try the installation or update again.
The error points to a directory-creation failure, but Epic’s general support guidance does not establish that cache or permissions are always the cause.
If “Verifying” or “Installing” seems stuck
An installation that stays on “Verifying” or “Installing” may be waiting on disk space. Epic notes that decompressing game files can require more free space than the game’s announced size.
- Check the available space on the drive selected for the installation.
- Compare it with the game’s current requirements on its official store or support page.
- Consider another drive only if you confirm that capacity is insufficient. An external SSD may be an option for PC storage, but check that your device supports the connection and drive before buying one.
If the download is slow, not stopped
For a download that is progressing but too slowly, Epic’s checklist focuses on service status and the network path:

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Check the Epic Games Public Status page.
- If you are on Wi-Fi, try a wired Ethernet connection or another network.
- Clear the device cache.
- Check that the launcher’s download-speed limit is off.
- Check whether your network configuration allows Epic’s domains.
- If the problem appears related to DNS, flush DNS or consider switching to a public DNS service.
- Disable a proxy server if you use one and it is interfering with the connection.
DNS changes and network-security adjustments are not first-line fixes for every installation problem. Use them when the symptom points to the network or your setup makes them relevant.
Clear Epic Games Launcher’s cache
Epic says the launcher cache stores information from previous use; deleting the relevant webcache lets the launcher rebuild it. Exit or quit the launcher fully before removing the cache folders. Do not delete game-install folders.
Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher from its system-tray icon.
- Open
%localappdata%. - Open
EpicGamesLauncher/Saved. - Delete the
webcachefolder and, if present,webcache_4147andwebcache_4430. - Reopen the launcher and try again.
Mac
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- Open
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Remove the
webcachefolder. - Reopen the launcher and try again.
There may be fewer versioned cache folders than the ones listed for Windows. Epic’s platform-specific instructions are available in its cache-clearing guide.

Verify the game files
Verification is useful when local game files may be damaged or corrupted. Epic explains that “Verifying the integrity of your game files will check the files on your computer to ensure they are not damaged or corrupted.” It replaces files that differ from the expected versions and does not affect saved data.
- Open Library in Epic Games Launcher.
- Select the game’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Manage, then Verify.
Verification checks local files; it is not a fix for a service outage, network fault, account issue, or lack of disk space.

- Restart the launcher, clear its webcache, and refresh the Library.
- Check library filters and whether the game is hidden.
- Confirm the game supports your operating system.
- Make sure the purchase or redeemed code is associated with the Epic account and platform you are using.
- Check whether the purchase was refunded. Epic also identifies limited-time builds, revoked fraudulent codes, and purchases made as gifts as possible reasons a title may not appear as expected.
When to reinstall the launcher
Reinstalling is more disruptive than restarting the launcher, clearing its cache, or verifying files. Keep it for cases where the less disruptive steps have failed and the launcher itself still appears to be the problem. Epic’s II-E1003 guidance warns that reinstalling removes games installed through the launcher.
Use the official guide for the exact error
Epic’s general launcher troubleshooting guide covers broader launcher problems, including checking for updates and system requirements. For more specific cases, use Epic’s instructions for stuck downloads, II-E1003, IS-0003, Verifying or Installing that will not finish, slow download speeds, verifying game files, and games missing from the Library.
