To run a bhajan playlist as a YouTube Live broadcast, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source: add your local, rights-cleared recordings, enable Loop Playlist, then connect OBS to a broadcast created in YouTube Studio. This repeats the playlist, but it does not guarantee that your computer, internet connection, encoder, or YouTube stream will stay online continuously.
Before you set up the stream
Confirm that your channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The person streaming must be at least 16. Check eligibility before preparing the playlist or scheduling a broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
Use recordings and artwork you have permission to broadcast
A bhajan’s devotional subject or availability on YouTube does not by itself give you rights to rebroadcast a particular recording or its artwork. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream or lead to interruption or termination. Even licensed material may be interrupted unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Decide the audience setting
If a broadcast is marked made for kids, some live features—including live chat and live chat replay—are disabled, and personalized ads on live streams are disabled. Review the audience setting before going live; YouTube describes these and other restrictions in its live-streaming restrictions guidance.

Build and test the VLC playlist in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS documents the source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
- Create a scene. In OBS, make a scene for the broadcast. Add the visual elements you want viewers to see, such as the video itself or a suitable still image.
- Add the VLC Video source. Add a source named VLC Video and load the local media files you have permission to stream. The source supports a playlist of media items.
- Set playlist behavior. In the source properties, leave Loop Playlist enabled to restart playback when the source reaches the end. OBS documents this setting as on by default. Choose whether to enable shuffle: leave it off for a planned devotional sequence, or turn it on if randomized order is intended.
- Check the complete scene. Preview the source and confirm that the files play, the intended image is visible, audio is audible, and the playlist restarts. Check source visibility and audio-track behavior as part of the test. Do not assume that a successful loop test proves the encoder will remain connected.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or schedule a broadcast in YouTube Studio. Choose the encoder workflow. YouTube distinguishes the broadcast—the event and video viewers watch—from the stream, the audio-video transmission connected to it. The distinction is described in the YouTube Live API guide to broadcasts and streams.
- Connect OBS using YouTube’s stream settings. Use the stream details provided by YouTube in OBS’s streaming configuration. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send video to your channel.
- Inspect the preview and health indicators. Start the encoder connection and check YouTube Studio’s live dashboard for a picture, sound, and any warnings or stream-health issues. Resolve problems before announcing the broadcast.
- Go live when ready. Confirm the correct broadcast and audience setting in YouTube Studio, then start the live broadcast using the encoder workflow.

What “24/7” does—and does not—mean
Loop Playlist makes OBS restart the source after it runs out of media. It does not keep the computer powered, restore a lost internet connection, prevent an encoder failure, or guarantee that YouTube ingest remains available. A local setup therefore needs monitoring and a recovery plan: decide who will notice a stopped stream and how they will reconnect it.

YouTube’s Live API documentation describes a 24/7 live-feed use case, but that is not a promise that a particular desktop encoder session will be fault-proof. Nor do the cited sources establish that a single 24-hour session will produce a complete replay archive. If preserving the full program matters, plan separate recording and archive handling and verify YouTube’s current behavior rather than relying on an assumed full-session replay.
Choose playlist order and continuity deliberately
- Loop with shuffle off: the sequence repeats predictably, which suits a planned order of bhajans.
- Loop with shuffle on: the source randomizes playback order, which may suit a varied rotation but is not a fixed program sequence.
- Local operation: OBS and VLC run on your machine, so someone must keep the computer, power, and network available and monitor the encoder.
- Replay preservation: keeping the current broadcast running and retaining a complete archive are separate goals; do not assume the live session alone preserves every hour.
Troubleshoot common problems
VLC Video does not appear as an OBS source
Install VLC and restart or reopen OBS. Match architectures: 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC for this source.

The playlist stops at the final file
Open the VLC Video source properties and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled. Preview the source to verify that the playlist reaches its end and restarts as expected.
The stream is interrupted by a copyright match
Check YouTube Studio for warnings and resolve the rights issue. If you are authorized to use third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent automated interruption.

The stream drops unexpectedly
Check OBS’s encoder status, VLC playback, computer power, network connectivity, and YouTube Studio’s stream-health indicators. Arrange an operator or alerting process to notice the interruption and restart the encoder or broadcast as needed.
Expected live features are missing
Check channel eligibility and restrictions, then review the audience setting. A made-for-kids designation disables certain live features, including live chat and chat replay.
