You can start Blood and Wine either as a separate campaign from the main menu or as part of an existing save. Choose the standalone option if you want to jump straight into the expansion; to continue your campaign, complete the in-game trigger for Envoys, Wineboys.

Start Blood and Wine from the main menu
- Update The Witcher 3 to the latest version and confirm the expansion is available for your edition and platform.
- Open the game’s main menu.
- Choose the standalone Blood and Wine option to begin a separate expansion campaign. CD PROJEKT RED confirms that players can still start either expansion separately from the main menu: publisher game page.
Start it on an existing save
Continue your campaign and look for Envoys, Wineboys, the first main quest in Blood and Wine. Secondary quest references associate its trigger with completing A Poet Under Pressure and reading a notice on a Velen notice board. One reference identifies the notice as “Appeal to Sir Geralt of Rivia, the Bridge his Crest.” These are in-game quest details reported by secondary references, not steps documented in CD PROJEKT RED’s support instructions.
The Official Witcher Wiki lists level 34 as the suggested level for Envoys, Wineboys. That is guidance, not a confirmed unlock requirement: CD PROJEKT RED’s FAQ does not specify a mandatory level. The separate main-menu route does not require you to find the notice board in an existing campaign.
If Blood and Wine is missing
CD PROJEKT RED says Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are now included in the base game. For owners, its instruction is to update the game to the latest version so the expansions install. The publisher also says standalone expansions have been delisted and the Complete Edition has replaced the base game in digital storefronts; PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners can download the expansions for free. Previously owned expansions remain in the owner’s library, with their content patched into the base game, and save files remain compatible. Check the publisher’s current expansion FAQ for your ownership and platform situation.

Nintendo Switch Complete Edition
For Nintendo Switch specifically, CD PROJEKT RED says both the physical and digital Complete Editions include the two major expansions, and that all content is on the physical game card.
