To rotate mantra videos on a 24/7 YouTube livestream, install OBS Studio and VLC, add the files to an OBS VLC Video source, choose whether to loop in order or shuffle, then send the OBS output to YouTube with your stream URL and key. The playlist can repeat automatically, but your computer and internet connection must remain on, and YouTube may interrupt material it identifies as third-party content.
What you need before you build the playlist
- OBS Studio and VLC: OBS’s VLC Video source uses VLC to play a playlist. Match their architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS lists this source for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Mantra media you have rights to use: Check the recording, composition, artwork, and any background footage. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for necessary rights, including music licensing rights.
- An eligible YouTube channel: The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- A computer and reliable network connection: For the DIY method, both need to stay running throughout the broadcast.
For rights, consult YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions. They state that creators represent and warrant they hold the necessary rights to exploit live content worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants.
Choose predictable order or shuffle

OBS documents both options for its VLC Video source. Shuffle changes the order of playlist items; it does not establish that every item will play for the same duration or that an item cannot recur across cycles.
Set up the rotating playlist in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. Use a VLC build compatible with your OBS architecture. Open OBS after both are installed.
- Add a VLC Video source. In the OBS scene where the broadcast will run, use the Sources panel’s add control and choose VLC Video. Give the source a recognizable name, such as “Mantra playlist.”
- Add your media files to the source playlist. In the VLC Video source properties, add the audio or video files you intend to rotate. Arrange them in the desired order if you want a predictable sequence. Check that the audio is audible and any video is framed as intended in the OBS preview.
- Enable repetition. Turn on Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the last item.
- Choose whether to shuffle. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a repeatable sequence; enable it if randomized order is appropriate. If the order of prayers, mantras, or readings is meaningful, do not shuffle.
- Check the full scene. Confirm the VLC source is visible, the audio meters move during playback, and no other scene element obscures the content. A short local test can catch missing files, silent audio, or an incorrect scene before you start a public stream.

Connect OBS to YouTube and start the livestream
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling can let viewers see the event in advance and set reminders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream details using the available connection method. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish or share it.
- Start the encoder. Start streaming in OBS and check YouTube’s Live Control Room to confirm the incoming feed appears. Complete any remaining YouTube controls there to begin the broadcast.
- Monitor the stream. Keep OBS and YouTube’s dashboard available to spot dropped output or copyright warnings. A looping playlist in OBS does not itself guarantee YouTube will keep the broadcast live.
Follow YouTube’s current encoder-stream setup guidance and check live-streaming eligibility if the Live Control Room does not let you start.
Copyright, permission, and monetization
Permission does not guarantee an uninterrupted stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube says that even creators who have licensed material should ask the rights holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license is important, but it is not a guarantee that automated matching will not interrupt a live feed.

Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams. Make sure permission covers the actual use: a recording, the underlying composition, visuals, and any other included material may involve separate rights.
Looping is not a monetization guarantee
A stream that is technically able to repeat is not automatically eligible for monetization. YouTube’s policy says repetitive or mass-produced content is “inauthentic content” and ineligible for monetization; a simple loop may therefore raise eligibility concerns. Consider what original value the channel adds, and review the current YouTube channel monetization policies before relying on revenue.

Will YouTube archive a 24-hour stream?
Do not rely on YouTube to save a full 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping the entire broadcast matters, make a local recording and verify that your computer has enough storage for it.

Troubleshooting a rotating mantra stream

Frequently Asked Questions
Can OBS shuffle a mantra playlist automatically?
Yes. Enable Shuffle Playlist in the VLC Video source properties; keep it off when the sequence needs to remain predictable.
Can I stream mantra music if I have permission?
You need the necessary rights, but permission alone does not guarantee an uninterrupted feed: YouTube’s content matching can still interrupt a stream unless the rights holder allowlists your channel.
Can I monetize a looped livestream?
