The camera is only needed if you choose to record puppet footage; the live transmission can use prerecorded or rendered visuals with narration and sound.
What you need for a camera-free puppet-story stream
The stream is a continuous feed of prepared video and audio, not a live camera broadcast. Create puppet visuals as stop-motion, animation, still-frame sequences, prerecorded puppet footage, or composites; combine them with narration, music, and sound effects before sending the feed to YouTube.
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Several original episodes prepared as video, or a playlist that your encoder can play continuously.
- An encoder such as OBS, connected to the YouTube stream URL and stream key.
- A reliable upload connection and a plan to monitor and restart the stream if the computer, encoder, network, or power fails.
- Rights to use every visual and audio element in the stream.
Make the stories worth returning to
Develop distinct episodes
Build a recognizable series with recurring puppets, settings, or an opening theme, but make each story meaningfully different. Vary the premise, character choices, conflict, setting, and resolution rather than repeatedly changing only a title or a few details in a template. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible for monetization; similar series can still provide value when their episodes have materially varied substance. YouTube Partner Program channel monetization policies
Prepare the complete feed
For each episode, assemble the picture and sound into a finished video. If your encoder will play a playlist, check that episode endings and openings work in sequence and that the transition does not leave a silent or blank stretch. Keep a local copy of the finished episodes and, if practical, a separate recording of the outgoing stream.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Clear the rights before scheduling
Use original or properly cleared puppet designs, artwork, music, effects, fonts, and clips. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; it may replace a stream with a placeholder, warn you, or interrupt or terminate a stream if a match is not resolved. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm that permissions cover the material, territories, and uses involved. YouTube copyright and live-stream guidance
Set up the YouTube Live encoder feed
- Confirm live access. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose the encoder workflow rather than webcam streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel without live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Follow Studio’s live setup to obtain the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or include it in a screenshot.
- Connect OBS. In OBS, use the Auto-Configuration Wizard for a starting setup, then select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key as directed by the current OBS and YouTube interfaces. OBS’s official guidance also points to its x264 streaming guide for more detailed encoder setup. OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard · OBS streaming guidelines
- Load the story video or playlist. Add the prepared video or playlist to the OBS scene using the relevant media source, and enable looping where appropriate. Check that the source remains active between episodes and that both picture and audio reach the output.
- Choose settings for your setup. Use YouTube’s recommended settings for the selected resolution and frame rate, and choose an encoder bitrate your upload connection can sustain. There is no universal bitrate or computer specification for every channel: the appropriate choice depends on output resolution, frame rate, encoder, and available upload bandwidth. OBS’s wizard is a sensible starting point; test the complete feed before scheduling a long run.
- Start and inspect the live output. Start streaming in OBS, then check YouTube Studio’s stream preview and health indicators before sharing or relying on the broadcast. Confirm that the right story is playing and that narration and other audio are present at a usable level.
YouTube also documents direct ingestion protocols such as HLS and DASH, each with specific transport, container, codec, and segment requirements. Most creators should use a supported encoder and its YouTube setup rather than trying to implement those protocols themselves. YouTube Live Streaming API ingestion protocols

Keep the channel running and protect the replay
Plan for interruptions
A local OBS setup depends on the computer, encoder, internet connection, and power remaining available. Monitor the stream and decide in advance how you will restore it after a failure: check the connection and encoder, restart the feed, and verify the new output in YouTube Studio. Do not assume a particular computer, connection, or hosting setup will run indefinitely without interruption.
Separate continuous streaming from replay archiving
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, keep your own local recording and consider ending and restarting sessions before they reach 12 hours rather than depending on one continuous broadcast to produce an archive. A continuous channel feed and a dependable replay are separate goals. YouTube live stream archives

AI disclosure and monetization considerations
Disclose realistic synthetic material when required
YouTube’s guidance says disclosure is required when AI-generated or meaningfully altered content appears realistic—for example, a realistic scene that did not happen or a real person made to appear to say something they did not. Clearly unrealistic animation is listed as not requiring disclosure. If your puppet project includes realistic synthetic people, places, or events, review YouTube Studio’s altered-content disclosure setting for the applicable workflow. YouTube altered or synthetic content disclosures
Treat monetization as conditional
Depending on channel eligibility and availability, YouTube live monetization can include ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships. Ads are served only when a stream and channel are eligible, and are not guaranteed for every ad slot. Continuous streaming does not guarantee views, watch hours, or revenue.
