To install an RTX 5070, first confirm that the exact card fits your case and that your power supply meets its requirements. Then remove the old card, seat the new one in the PCIe slot, connect the power leads specified for that model, and install NVIDIA’s current driver.
Before you open the PC: check fit and power
Confirm the exact RTX 5070 model will fit
RTX 5070 cards from different manufacturers can have different dimensions. NVIDIA lists the Founders Edition reference card at 242 mm long, 112 mm wide and two slots thick, but warns that add-in-card specifications vary. Compare the chosen card’s dimensions with your case’s graphics-card length limit, width clearance and available expansion slots. Check the manufacturer’s specification for the actual retail card, not just the reference dimensions. NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 specifications
Check your PSU and the card’s power connections
NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 family page lists 250 W total graphics power and 650 W required system power. The 650 W figure is minimum/reference-configuration guidance based on a system with a Ryzen 9 9950X; NVIDIA notes that requirements vary by system. Check the exact card maker’s power recommendation alongside your full PC configuration and the PSU’s rating and available cables. You may not need a new PSU if your existing unit meets the requirements.
Connector instructions differ by source and can depend on the specific board and its included cable. NVIDIA’s family specification lists two PCIe 8-pin cables with the included adapter or a 300 W-or-greater PCIe Gen 5 cable. Its RTX 5070 User Guide lists two PCIe 8-pin cables with the RTX 5070 PCIe Gen 5 adapter, or one 360 W-or-greater PCIe Gen 5 16-pin cable. The guide illustrates connecting at least two independent, dedicated 8-pin PCIe cables from the PSU to the adapter. Follow the instructions supplied for your exact card and cable; do not assume that a reference-card configuration applies unchanged to a partner model.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to replace your old graphics card
Case and motherboard layouts vary, so consult their manuals if you cannot identify a screw, latch or cable. Handle the card by its edges and avoid touching its contacts.
- Shut down and disconnect power. Turn off the PC, switch off the PSU if it has a switch, unplug the power cable, and disconnect the display cable and other connections that obstruct access.
- Open the case. Remove the side panel according to the case manual. Locate the old graphics card and its power leads.
- Disconnect the old card. Unplug its PCIe power connectors by their plugs, not by pulling the wires. Remove the bracket screws or other card-retention hardware securing it to the case.
- Release the PCIe slot latch and remove the card. Find the retaining clip at the end of the motherboard’s PCIe slot and release it according to the motherboard’s instructions. Support the card as you withdraw it straight from the slot; do not force it if it catches.
- Seat the RTX 5070. Align the card with the same full-length PCIe slot and case openings, then press it evenly into place until it is fully seated and the slot latch engages. Secure its bracket to the case.
- Connect the card’s power leads. Use the cable or adapter specified for your exact card. If using the NVIDIA guide’s adapter arrangement, connect the card-side 16-pin plug and the required independent dedicated 8-pin PSU cables as illustrated in the guide. Make sure each plug is fully inserted; never force a connector that does not match.
- Close the case and reconnect the display. Refit the side panel, reconnect power, and plug the monitor into a display output on the RTX 5070 rather than the motherboard.
Boot the PC and install the NVIDIA driver
Start the PC and install the current NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver; NVIDIA says users adding the RTX 5070 need the latest driver. NVIDIA directs users to the NVIDIA app or GeForce.com for downloads. Choose a Studio driver instead if that better fits your creator workload and NVIDIA’s current driver guidance.

If the installation does not work
- No image on the monitor: Confirm the display cable is connected to the RTX 5070, the card is fully seated, and its required power plugs are connected. Shut down and disconnect power before reseating or checking internal connections.
- The card will not fit: Do not press or bend it into place. Recheck the exact card dimensions against case length, width and slot clearance; a partner card may be larger than the Founders Edition reference design.
- The PSU cables do not match: Stop and check the card’s own documentation and PSU manual. Do not improvise with an unapproved cable configuration or assume the reference specifications cover every partner card.
- The PC shuts down or fails to start: Recheck that the card is seated and powered as specified, then compare the PSU’s capacity and connectors with the chosen card’s requirements and the rest of the system.
