You have nine shared guesses for four five-letter answers, so the key is to balance information gathering with direct answer attempts—and to rescan every board after each turn.
Understand how Quordle scores a guess
Quordle presents four hidden five-letter words. A submitted guess is applied to each unsolved board, but the feedback is calculated separately for each answer. The game page describes nine attempts in total; one guess uses a turn even if it helps several boards.
- Green: the letter is correct and in the correct position.
- Yellow: the letter appears in the answer, but in a different position.
- Gray: the letter is absent from that board’s answer.
A gray letter on one grid does not rule it out on the other three. The game’s keyboard divides letter status by board, which can help you keep the clues separate. See the Quordle game page for its current interface and instructions.
Use opening guesses for coverage, not as a fixed formula
Early on, choose valid five-letter words that test several distinct, common letters. A guess with varied letters can reveal more than one that repeats a letter, but it should also leave you able to recognize plausible word patterns once clues arrive.

A secondary guide suggests using the first two or three turns for broad coverage and gives SLATE followed by CORNY as an example. Treat that pair as an illustration, not a proven best opener: no comparative Quordle evidence establishes a winning sequence, and useful guesses depend on the feedback you actually receive. Do not keep testing letters once a board has a strong candidate. The value of a coverage guess falls when it fails to advance any likely answer or meaningfully narrow a difficult board.

Track the four boards independently
After each guess, review all four grids before deciding what to enter next. For each unsolved answer, note fixed positions, letters known to be present, positions those letters cannot occupy, and letters excluded from that board. Keeping a short written note can help if the grids are becoming hard to compare.
Build each candidate from that board’s clues alone. A green fixes a position; a yellow letter must move to a different position; a gray letter can be removed from that answer. Avoid carrying an exclusion from one grid over to another.

Allow for repeated letters
If the pattern suggests a repeated letter, keep that possibility open. Wordle-style feedback for repeated letters depends on how many copies appear in the answer, so identical letters in a guess do not necessarily receive identical colors. Will Rosenbaum’s formal analysis describes repeated-letter handling in Wordle, but it does not validate a particular Quordle strategy; see “Finding a Winning Strategy for Wordle is NP-complete”.
Choose the next guess by its value across live boards
A nearly complete board may deserve a direct answer guess, especially when several positions are fixed and only a few candidates fit. Before submitting it, check whether the same word also tests a useful letter or fits another unsolved board. A guess that advances more than one grid can be especially valuable while several answers remain.

Do not tunnel on the board that looks easiest. A difficult grid may need an information-gathering guess, while a near-solved one may be ready for an answer; compare the likely benefit of each choice against the remaining shared turns.

Count turns used and answers solved as you play. One practical rule of thumb is to shift from broad letter coverage to answer attempts after roughly two or three coverage guesses. That is guidance from a secondary strategy guide, not a guarantee or a measured threshold.

- Early in the game, favor guesses that reveal several useful letters across active boards.
- As patterns emerge, prefer words that fit one or more live grids and advance a likely solution.
- When only a few attempts remain, avoid speculative coverage unless it can resolve a specific uncertainty.
Solving a board narrows the set of puzzles still demanding attention, but it does not restore a guess. Keep treating the attempt allowance as shared across the four answers.
Practice a repeatable routine
The game page offers practice play. Use it to rehearse the same process each time: scan every board after a guess, record each board’s clues separately, and notice turns that tested letters without narrowing any likely answer. Practice is an opportunity to refine your decisions; the available page does not report controlled results showing that a particular routine improves performance.
Know that modes can change
A Quordle-hosted listing names Classic, Extreme, Chill, Sequence, Rescue, and Weekly Challenge. It lists nine guesses for Classic, eight for Extreme, and twelve for Chill. The listing does not provide reliable details for Sequence or Rescue in the material available, and mode rules or availability may change. Check the current in-game instructions before relying on a mode’s attempt count or format. The listing is at dev.quordle.com.
