Chaos Siege is Space Marine 2’s new PvE mode, added in Patch 15 on October 1. It puts players on the Chaos Space Marine side against Tyranids, Cadians, and loyalist Space Marines in two Siege sectors on Avarax. There is no official class ranking or confirmed “best” squad composition, so the strongest approach is to assign complementary jobs rather than chase a supposed tier list.
This guide separates confirmed Patch 15 details from team-planning advice, and flags where original Siege mechanics may not carry over unchanged.
What is Chaos Siege in Space Marine 2?
Focus Entertainment describes Patch 15’s free update as adding a mode that lets players use Chaos Space Marines in PvE for the first time. The mode’s opponents are Tyranids, Cadians, and loyalist Space Marines, and its two new Siege sectors are on Avarax. Patch 15 launched October 1, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There is not enough official comparative data to name the strongest class, weapon, or fixed party setup for Chaos Siege. The recommendations below are role-based strategy, not developer rankings or tested performance results. Build around what a squad needs to cover: groups of enemies, dangerous durable targets, objectives, and keeping teammates effective when the formation spreads out.

How to choose classes and divide team roles
Think in terms of jobs your team must cover, then select available classes and equipment that can perform them. The official Patch 15 material does not rank classes against one another for Chaos Siege or publish class win rates. Treat the roles below as a planning framework, not a claim that any particular class is objectively best.
Wave control
Make sure someone can contribute against groups rather than having every player build only for single-target pressure. Group-clearing tools help prevent lesser enemies from overwhelming the team while other players focus on a priority target. Check the current in-game class and weapon descriptions before assigning this job; official Chaos Siege notes do not identify a class as the top wave clearer.

Elite and boss focus
Give at least one teammate the job of rapidly pressuring durable or especially dangerous enemies. Avoid assuming a weapon’s reputation in another mode proves it is best here: the official sources do not provide Chaos Siege damage comparisons, boss-specific recommendations, or a weapon ranking.
Objective coverage and formation safety
Agree in advance who can respond to an objective if the team needs to split. The other players should be ready to maintain a stable formation and cover the player who leaves, instead of all pursuing the objective or target at once. This is a general defense-mode tactic; current official Patch 15 information does not establish that Chaos Siege uses the same dynamic side-objective rules as original Siege.

Ranged threats and close-range control
Because the mode includes three enemy factions, plan for both ranged pressure and enemies that reach close quarters. The official announcement names the factions but does not document faction-specific counters, so do not build around an assumed weakness or a claimed class matchup without confirming it in the current game.
Which weapon is worth considering?
One-Handed Thunder Hammer
Patch 15 adds the One-Handed Thunder Hammer for Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, and Techmarine. Focus describes it as a fast weapon that shifts between single-target and area attacks: players build charges and spend them on stronger attacks. That makes it a flexible option to consider if you want one melee weapon to contribute in more than one situation, but the publisher has not established it as the best Chaos Siege weapon or compared its damage with alternatives. Choose it for the stated attack flexibility, not on an unsupported DPS claim. Your choice should fit the job the squad still needs covered and the way you intend to fight.

Original Siege provides useful context for planning, but its rules should not be assumed to apply unchanged to the Chaos variant. Patch 8.0 documented endless waves, three rotating sectors, five waves per sector before advancing, dynamic side objectives, a shop, reinforcement options, bosses every fifth wave, and increased difficulty after wave 15. Its reinforcements included specialist Space Marines, Cadian troopers, and a Dreadnought. Official Space Marine 2 Patch Notes 8.0

Those original mechanics explain why teams may want to think about objective coverage, spending, and late-wave survival. They do not confirm that Chaos Siege has the same wave structure, shop, reinforcements, boss schedule, or difficulty curve. Check the current Chaos Siege UI and Patch 15 notes before planning around any of those specifics.
Later original Siege updates also show why old builds and reward assumptions can age quickly. Siege 2.0 added shop items, bosses, additional objectives, Blessings, and Atonements. Patch 14 then adjusted wave and side-objective resource rewards, high-wave enemy resistance caps, minibosses, and accolade rewards. These are version-sensitive historical changes, not a definitive description of current Chaos Siege. Official Patch Notes 13.0 and Official Patch Notes 14.0
How Patch 15 affects build advice
Do not treat Blessings or Atonements as a settled basis for a “best build.” Patch 15 temporarily removes Cursed Relic from the Atonement pool and says Patch 16 will revisit the Blessings and Atonements systems. A practical squad-planning checklist
- Assign jobs, not rankings: cover group control, priority-target pressure, and objective response instead of treating one class as a universally superior pick.
- Plan for separation: decide who can handle an objective and who will protect the remaining formation.
- Check current rules: verify Chaos Siege’s wave, objective, shop, and reinforcement systems in the game rather than importing original Siege details.
- Coordinate spending if the mode offers shared or team-relevant resources: original Siege used objectives and shop choices to shape survival and reinforcement options, but the same loop is not confirmed for Chaos Siege.
- Recheck patch-sensitive systems: Blessings and Atonements are due for further attention in Patch 16, according to Patch 15 notes.
