The one advance task Blizzard calls out for World of Warcraft patch 12.1.5 is to start Orin Straylight’s research before realm maintenance during the week of October 6, 2026. Accept “In the Catalyst’s Shadow” from Decimus in Voidstorm, then pick up and turn in “Prismatic Potential” in Silvermoon City. That research can unlock an additional weekly Nebulous Voidcore. After that, prepare around the activities your character is most likely to play; Blizzard does not specify a universal gear or inventory checklist.
Do this before the week-of-October 6 maintenance
- In Voidstorm, accept “In the Catalyst’s Shadow” from Decimus. Do this before the relevant realm maintenance.
- Go to Silvermoon City and accept “Prismatic Potential” from Orin Straylight.
- Turn in “Prismatic Potential” to Orin. Blizzard says a progress timer will appear above him while his research is underway.
- Return after the research finishes. During the week of October 6, Orin will offer “Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst.” Completing it unlocks an option to trade gold, Voidlight Marl, or Veteran Mistcrests for one additional Nebulous Voidcore each week.
These are the preparation steps in Blizzard’s 12.1.5 Content Update Notes, published October 1, 2026. Blizzard’s current news listing says the update arrives October 13, 2026, while the preparation instructions refer to maintenance during the week of October 6. Maintenance timing can differ by region, so check the notice for your realm and confirm the quests’ live state in game.
Choose what to prepare for based on how you play
Patch 12.1.5 adds several different kinds of content. Use the options below to decide what to pursue first; the official notes do not set a required item level or individualized power target.
If you want to follow the story
The new campaign, “The Promise of Tomorrow,” continues events in Quel’Thalas and Zul’Aman and leads to Kith’ix. Make campaign progression your priority if you want the narrative context for the new raid and region content.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you want a raid group
The Unbinding of Kith’ix is a single-boss raid with Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties. Mythic uses a flexible group size of 15–25 players. Pick a difficulty and group plan that fit your schedule; Blizzard’s notes do not establish a required item level.
If you prefer solo or companion play
The Labyrinth of Kindo’jan is a nine-chamber, Delve-like challenge with Valeera Sanguinar as a companion and rewards that include Mythic gear. You can complete it in one session or progress wing by wing. A completed wing can still award rewards; going farther offers more opportunities for treasure, alongside greater risk. See Blizzard’s 12.1.5 overview for the Labyrinth introduction.

If you want public outdoor events
Aqir Invasions take place in Eversong or Zul’Aman. Each event runs for ten minutes every hour, with public objectives leading to a boss encounter. Blizzard describes six scenario types; combat scenarios can include affixes. This is the option for players who want open group activity rather than a scheduled raid.
If you are catching up through Prey

There is no universal gear checklist
Blizzard’s published preparation instructions identify the quest chain for the additional Nebulous Voidcore; they do not call for a specific item level, consumable stockpile, or inventory setup. For activities beyond that quest chain, choose a difficulty, session length, and group format that suit your character and plans rather than assuming one preparation path applies to everyone.
