It follows Rose Belmont through 1499 Paris and foregrounds a Vampire Killer whip designed for both combat and traversal. A useful recent comparison is Castlevania Dominus Collection: that package brings earlier games to current platforms, rather than introducing a new adventure. Belmont’s Curse is scheduled to release October 15, 2026; Konami lists an opening-chapter demo in the meantime.
What’s different about Belmont’s Curse?
The clearest difference is what each product is. Belmont’s Curse is a newly announced entry in the series, while the Dominus Collection packages games that were already released. Konami describes the new title as a 2D action-exploration game. Its announced focus is Rose Belmont, exploration, and a whip that doubles as a way to move through the environment.
Konami places the story in Paris in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Rose is Trevor Belmont’s daughter, and the official site says Dracula’s curse affects her right arm. That makes the new game a continuation of the series’ story world, not a collection of the earlier games it references. Konami’s official game site
How does Belmont’s Curse compare with the Dominus Collection?
| Comparison | Belmont’s Curse | Dominus Collection |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A new 2D action-exploration game. | A modern-platform collection of three Nintendo DS-era games and two versions of Haunted Castle. |
| Story and era | Rose Belmont in Paris in 1499, after the events of Dracula’s Curse. | Separate earlier games; Konami says the three DS titles originally released between 2005 and 2008. |
| Announced play features | Whip-based traversal and combat, additional weapons, relics, and boss-linked Arcana powers. | The included games retain their individual mechanics; the collection adds features such as rewind, quick saves, configurable dual-screen layouts, and reference and gallery content. |
| Best fit | Someone looking for a new Rose Belmont story and a new game to explore. | Someone looking to play earlier Castlevania titles on current platforms, with convenience options. |
Those are different kinds of releases, not interchangeable versions of the same experience. The official Dominus Collection announcement lists Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, Haunted Castle, and Haunted Castle Revisited.

What gameplay has Konami announced?
The Vampire Killer is a traversal tool as well as a weapon
Konami says Rose can use the Vampire Killer whip to swing and reach areas, as well as to fight. That makes movement a prominent part of the announced design, alongside combat. The description establishes the intended role of the whip; it does not establish how responsive or difficult it feels in play.
Weapons, relics, and Arcana add options
The official materials describe a variety of weapons, seven equipment categories, and relics with offensive or defensive effects. Arcana powers are created by sealing defeated bosses into tarot cards. These are confirmed features, but details such as balance, upgrade paths, and how the options change moment-to-moment play have not been established in the pre-release information.

Returning figures meet a new setting and visual approach
Konami names series figures including Death, Medusa, and Carmilla, alongside Joan of Arc. Its materials describe a vivid visual style that retains gothic elements. Those details signal familiar series motifs within Rose’s new story; they are not evidence of how the complete game’s tone or level design compares with a particular predecessor.
Is Belmont’s Curse a new game or a collection?
It is a new game. Its launch date is October 15, 2026, and Konami lists an opening-chapter demo for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Konami says demo save data can transfer to the full game on the same platform and account, subject to its stated conditions. Check the official site for the demo and current platform details.

Because the game has not launched as of October 4, 2026, claims about its difficulty, pacing, responsiveness, level design, replay value, or quality relative to older games remain untested. The demo offers a way to try the opening chapter before release, but it cannot establish what the full game is like.
