Install the latest game update, then start with the default Medium graphics settings. In a post-update test published October 1, 2026, Steam Deck HQ reported about 70–80 FPS, including during combat. Treat that as one outlet’s observation—not a guaranteed frame rate for every Steam Deck or game session. Mojang says the update should make the game playable on Steam Deck, while noting that on-screen keyboard problems may remain and full Steam Deck verification is still a future goal.
Update the game before changing settings
The update changes which launch-era advice is relevant. Steam Deck HQ reported on September 28 that it could not get the game running on its Deck. Mojang then announced on October 1, 2026, that a Steam update should make it playable. Steam Deck HQ’s same-day post-update report recorded playable operation and its 70–80 FPS result at default Medium settings. The dates matter: pre-update launch reports do not describe the game after that fix.
- Install the latest available game update through Steam.
- Close and relaunch the game so it starts on the updated build.
- Begin with the default Medium graphics settings rather than applying unverified tweaks.
Mojang’s October 1 update says, “The game should now be playable on Steam Deck.”
Start at Medium, then judge performance in a real mission
Steam Deck HQ’s October 1, 2026 post-update test reported about 70–80 FPS on default Medium settings, including combat. This is a useful reference point for where to begin, not an official benchmark, developer target, or prediction for every Deck. The report does not provide a controlled comparison of graphics settings, Deck models, or frame-rate caps.

- Play a representative mission at the default Medium settings.
- Watch SteamOS’s performance overlay during both exploration and a busy fight, rather than judging only a quiet menu or opening area.
- If the frame rate feels uneven or you prefer a fixed target, test SteamOS’s built-in frame-rate limiter against the uncapped/default behavior. Keep whichever feels smoother to you; no cited test establishes a best cap for this game.
The reported result is from Steam Deck HQ’s post-update Steam Deck report. Its earlier September 28 review predates the compatibility update and could not test the game successfully.
Know what Steam Deck “Playable” means
Playable is not the same as Verified, and neither label is an FPS rating. Valve says a Playable game may require some manual tweaking. Verified is a stricter compatibility assessment covering controller input, the Deck’s default display and readable text, seamless operation, and Proton and middleware support. Mojang says more improvements are planned before full verification; its October 1 announcement does not say the game is already Verified.

Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility guidance describes Playable as: “The game may require some manual tweaking by the user to play*.”
Work around the known on-screen keyboard issue
Mojang specifically warns that on-screen keyboard functionality may be missing. If a login, account-linking screen, or another text field needs input and the keyboard does not appear, try opening the SteamOS virtual keyboard manually. If input still fails, report the behavior through the game’s official feedback or bug-report channel; the update does not establish a universal fix for this issue.

Skip tweaks that have not been shown to help
The available post-update performance report used the default Medium settings. It does not demonstrate that a Proton override, TDP limit, resolution change, or accessory is required or improves performance. Avoid stacking such changes preemptively: change one setting at a time only if you have a specific problem to solve, then compare the result in the same kind of gameplay.
Steam’s listed minimum specifications—Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 2200G or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, DirectX 11, and a GTX 1050- or RX 560-class dedicated GPU with at least 2 GB VRAM—are Windows PC requirements, not a Steam Deck benchmark or a promise about Deck frame rate. They should not be used to infer how a particular Deck will perform.

Check current fixes rather than relying on launch-week reports
Mojang’s September 30, 2026 post said most login and account-linking problems had been resolved and crash and stability hotfixes were in progress. That post came before the October 1 Steam Deck update, so it is not proof that any particular issue remains today. If you encounter a crash, login problem, or instability, check the current game update notes before applying old launch-era workarounds.
