To move a Pokémon from Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire to Pokémon HOME, it must pass through compatible Generation IV and Generation V games, Pokémon Bank, and finally HOME. That route depends on legacy hardware and software, and Pokémon Bank is scheduled to end service on February 25, 2027.
How the transfer route works
This is a sequence of migrations between games and services, not a cable connection from a Game Boy Advance cartridge to HOME. Each stage has its own hardware and software requirements.

Ruby or Sapphire to a Generation IV game with Pal Park
Put the Ruby or Sapphire cartridge into the GBA slot of a Nintendo DS or DS Lite, then use Pal Park in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver. Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum manual specifically lists Ruby and Sapphire among the GBA games that can migrate Pokémon into Platinum.

Generation IV to Generation V with Poké Transfer
Use the Poké Transfer facility to move Pokémon from Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver to Black, White, Black 2, or White 2. This stage requires two compatible DS-family systems.

Generation V to Pokémon Bank with Poké Transporter
Poké Transporter supports Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 as source games. It moves eligible Pokémon into Pokémon Bank.

Use HOME’s Bank transfer option to bring the Pokémon into HOME. A Pokémon HOME Premium Plan is required for this transfer.

What you need before starting
- The Ruby or Sapphire cartridge and a working DS or DS Lite with a GBA slot for the Pal Park stage.
- A compatible Generation IV game, a compatible Generation V game, and the systems needed to carry out the migrations between them.
- Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter already installed and working. Nintendo says Bank is not currently available to download; its support guidance says it is free to use for people who downloaded it before March 27, 2023. Do not assume that buying a 3DS now will give you access to either app.
- A Pokémon HOME Premium Plan for the final Bank-to-HOME transfer.
Bank availability and the shutdown deadline
Nintendo says Pokémon Bank service will end Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (February 26 at 03:00 UTC). Bank-to-HOME transfers will no longer be possible after service ends. If you still need to complete this route, plan around that cutoff rather than treating Bank as a permanent bridge.
Important limits before moving Pokémon
The final move is one-way
Once a Pokémon has been moved from Bank into HOME, it cannot be returned to Bank. Make sure you are ready to leave it in HOME before confirming the transfer.

HOME does not make every Pokémon usable in every game
A Pokémon’s presence in HOME does not mean every later game can accept it. Check HOME’s per-Pokémon game compatibility information for the destination you have in mind before moving it.

The transfer is feasible only if you can complete every stage before Bank service ends. Check that you have the required game cartridges and functioning systems, that Bank and Poké Transporter are installed and accessible on your system, and that you can use HOME Premium for the final move. Missing any one of those pieces can stop the chain.
