Start another run when you’ve finished the optional quests and story outcomes you care about—not when you’ve cleared every activity or unlocked every ability. Remedy describes New Game Plus as a way to revisit missed content and try broader builds. Traversal abilities are the notable exception to its carryover rules, so expect to regain them as the story progresses. As of October 3, 2026, New Game++ has been announced as a planned October update; check current official patch notes to confirm whether it is available on your platform before deciding.
First, check whether New Game++ is available
Remedy’s initial post-launch plans were surfaced in a community post whose title says New Game++ is coming in October. The linked Remedy page was inaccessible behind a cookie redirect, so the exact release date, patch number, rollout status, and final New Game++ mechanics are not confirmed here. Check current official patch notes for your platform before treating New Game++ as live. The details below describe Remedy’s New Game Plus overview, published April 30, 2026, and may not establish how a later New Game++ update works. What to finish before you start again
Treat this as a preference checklist, not a 100% requirement. Remedy says some content may not be found in a single run, and some side stories and conversations can have different outcomes.
- World Quests: finish any you want to see on this file. Remedy specifically calls out revisiting World Quests.
- Bounties: complete the ones you care about before moving on if you want them done in the current run.
- Collectibles: search for any items you still want to find; collectibles are another category Remedy says players may revisit.
- Side stories and conversations: pursue outcomes that matter to you, especially if you want to see alternate results before starting fresh.
- Abilities and build upgrades: do not delay just to unlock everything. Remedy says the first playthrough cannot unlock the full arsenal in one go, and NG+ is intended to give players more room to experiment.
A practical rule: if your remaining goal is completion of optional content or seeing a particular narrative outcome, do that first. If you are ready to revisit the story for build experimentation or changed encounters, you do not need to clear everything beforehand.

What carries over—and what you will regain
In the April 30, 2026 overview, Remedy Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov says New Game Plus starts a fresh playthrough while retaining much of what you have earned. The listed carryover includes:
- Aberrant upgrades
- Health and combat-ability resource improvements
- Unlocked supernatural combat abilities
- Talents
- Artifacts
Traversal abilities do not carry over: Remedy ties them to story progression and the way the world unfolds. Plan to regain them as you advance through the campaign rather than expecting your full traversal toolkit from the start. Remedy’s New Game Plus overview.

Why replay: expanded builds and tougher encounters
New Game Plus is not just a repeat with an unchanged world and a stronger character. Remedy says enemies become more dangerous, encounters can shift, and some bosses may show new behaviors. It also describes additional talent nodes, the ability to equip multiple combat abilities from the same boss, and an extra artifact slot. The overview says the first playthrough allows up to three equipped artifacts and that a fourth slot unlocks in NG+.
That makes another run most appealing if you want to test ability synergies, develop a build beyond what the first run permits, or face evolving encounters. Remedy describes the first run as offering a wide range of options and a return as a chance to use a more complete toolkit; it does not suggest every player needs a second run.

How long to wait if you still have story left
Remedy Communications Director Thomas Puha estimates the main story takes 25 to 35 hours. That is the developer’s estimate for the main story, not a measured completionist total or an estimate for a New Game Plus run; Remedy notes there is more to do for completionists.
