If you want demanding sword combat built around reading an opponent and meeting attacks with a deflection, start with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. For a newly announced blade-on-blade option, consider Onimusha: Way of the Sword; for wuxia-style action with more weapon variety and difficulty options, look at Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition. Sifu is worth considering if difficult melee matters more than using a sword.
Burning Sword: Death Sun is still listed as in development by developer Nomadic Games, with Steam (PC) named in its press kit and no release date specified. The developer’s game page and press kit describe its mix of challenging souls-like and hack-and-slash action, sword techniques, palm strikes, inner strength, and martial-masters duels.
Which game is closest to Burning Sword: Death Sun?
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the clearest match in this group if your priority is sword fighting that rewards deflection, posture pressure, and learning boss encounters. The comparison is about combat emphasis, not a claim that the games have identical difficulty or systems: the available description of Sekiro comes from a secondary reference, rather than an official game page.
If you would rather wait for a forthcoming game with explicit parry-and-deflect language, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the more directly documented option. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition is a stronger fit for someone drawn to martial-arts action and weapon variety than to one specific sword-combat loop.

Choose based on the challenge you want
For deflection-focused sword fights: Sekiro
Choose Sekiro if the central appeal of Burning Sword: Death Sun is a sword duel where timing and defensive reads matter. The available description points to deflection, posture, and boss encounters, but it does not establish a direct difficulty ranking against Burning Sword or other games.
For announced blade-on-blade combat: Onimusha
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a good one to watch if you want a distinct sword-focused option and are comfortable with its announced release timing. PlayStation’s description specifically foregrounds parrying and deflecting, making it the most explicit upcoming match for that part of the reference game’s appeal.

Pick Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition if you want martial-action combat with a broader set of weapon types and the option of more challenging difficulty levels. That makes it less narrowly defined by sword duels, while keeping it close to the wuxia flavor associated with Burning Sword: Death Sun.
For difficult melee without swords: Sifu
Sifu is the adjacent choice for players who mainly want demanding close-quarters combat. Its official materials describe Pak-Mei kung fu, adaptation through mistakes, and the Arenas expansion; its fighting is hand-to-hand rather than swordplay.

How to think about difficulty between games
One player phrased the desired range as a game “harder than Ghost of Tsushima, but easier than Sekiro.” That is a useful way to describe wanting a challenge between two familiar reference points, but it is a personal calibration, not a universal difficulty scale. The available information does not establish a reliable ranking of all the games here, so choose by the combat feature you want—deflection, weapon breadth, or hand-to-hand technique—rather than assuming one title will land at a fixed point between the two.
