Use Edit Appearance to keep the equipped item’s stats and perks while choosing an available look. The feature is now available from the beginning of the game on PlayStation and PC.
What changes when you use Edit Appearance?
Ragnarök treats equipment and its edited appearance as separate choices. The equipped gear supplies the gameplay properties; Edit Appearance changes how that gear looks. Santa Monica Studio’s launch guidance described transmog as a way to pair the equipment perk you want with your preferred look. PlayStation’s gameplay tips explain the original system.
For example, if one armor piece suits your build but you prefer the look of another armor appearance you own, apply that look to the equipped piece. The appearance is not a separate combat build: assess stats, perks, and upgrade level on the actual equipped gear.
Do you still need Level 9 gear to change an appearance?
No. Level 9 was the original launch-era requirement, not the current unlock rule. Santa Monica Studio announced that the update released January 30, 2025 made Edit Appearance available from the beginning for all PlayStation and PC players. The studio’s update announcement states the change.

Are armor appearances the same as armor upgrades?
No. An appearance changes presentation; an upgrade affects equipment progression. In New Game Plus, Level 9 equipment can be converted into Plus versions for additional progression. That is distinct from applying a different look.
The New Game Plus guide also describes appearance rewards and shop items with their own acquisition conditions. Santa Monica Studio’s NG+ guide says 13 remixed armor appearances, featuring new color combinations and styles, can be bought at Huldra Brothers’ Shop and applied to existing Level 9-or-higher armor. It separately says the new Berserker Armor appearance is acquired by defeating the Berserker King in NG+. These are specific unlock details, not a general requirement that every appearance be earned the same way.

Do preorder or Digital Deluxe cosmetics affect the transmog system?
No. Edition content determines which listed items a player receives; it is not a prerequisite for using Edit Appearance. PlayStation’s FAQ lists Risen Snow Armor and Atreus Risen Snow Tunic as preorder bonuses, and Darkdale Armor and Darkdale Attire (cosmetic) as Digital Deluxe Edition content. The labels distinguish the edition items; they do not change the separation between equipped gear properties and appearance editing. See the PlayStation FAQ for the edition details.

PlayStation says the Dark Odyssey collection became available at no additional cost to owners on PlayStation Store and PC on March 22, 2025, in celebration of the series’ 20th anniversary. Availability can change, so check the God of War Ragnarök game page for current details. That announcement does not establish item-by-item stats or a comprehensive list of appearance slots, so it is best understood as a named cosmetic collection rather than evidence that cosmetics provide combat bonuses.
