- Graphics settings: Reduce settings selectively to identify which changes matter on your system rather than applying a preset without considering your hardware and image-quality preferences.
- Ray tracing and upscaling: Compare these only if your game version exposes them. Their effect depends on your hardware and configuration; the available evidence does not establish a universal toggle or API choice as the fix.
Change one item at a time and keep the rest of the test conditions steady. That makes it easier to distinguish a real improvement from normal scene-to-scene variation.

Check requirements, storage, and game version
Confirm your PC against the current requirements
The requirements page has been updated for newer technical enhancements, so check the configuration for your installed game version rather than relying on older PC requirements. CD PROJEKT RED says an SSD is required to support the latest technical enhancements and describes faster loading and smoother asset streaming as benefits. This does not mean an SSD will resolve every low-FPS problem.
The same page says a GTX 1660 can achieve 60 FPS or higher at Minimum settings. That is a specific configuration claim, not a guarantee for other graphics cards, resolutions, settings, or gameplay scenes. The developer says its expected FPS targets are based on QA tests and can fluctuate with scene and gameplay.

Consider storage if the game is on an HDD
If you are using an HDD, moving the installation to a suitable SSD is a reasonable option for the stated loading and asset-streaming benefits, particularly for the latest technical enhancements. The requirements page does not promise an average-FPS increase, so treat storage as a factor to check rather than an assumed cause of your stutter.
Check whether your platform supports a rollback
Rollback availability depends on the platform and release. CD PROJEKT RED’s requirements page names version 1.32 (Classic) as an earlier version players may be able to return to, and says version 4.04 will also be available after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered releases. Check the current platform instructions and support notice before changing versions; rollback is not a universal or permanent fix.
