Use a preset when you want to restore a whole look, and Favorites when you want to locate a particular item.
How Fortnite Locker presets work
A preset saves a set of cosmetics under a name so you can select that combination again instead of rebuilding it item by item. Epic’s instructions call the control Save Character; its loadout instructions describe the same basic process.
- Open the Locker and equip the cosmetics you want in the combination.
- Select Save Character.
- Choose an empty preset space.
- Enter a name you will recognize and save the preset.
Epic’s instructions do not establish a current maximum number of character presets, so there is no reliable number to give here. The available flow is documented in Epic’s How do I create a Preset in Fortnite? and loadout instructions.
Presets and Favorites: which should you use?

To favorite an item, select it in the relevant Locker category. On console, Epic documents holding the left stick; on PC, open the item’s ellipsis menu and choose Favorite Item. To show favorites, open Sort + Filter, select Favorites, then apply the filter. These controls are documented in Epic’s instructions for adding Locker items to Favorites.

Choose names that make presets easy to scan
Use a short, consistent name tied to a reason you would choose the combination: a color palette, character theme, or mode you prefer. For example, names such as “Neon,” “Snow,” or “Ranked” are easier to scan than several nearly identical names. This is a personal naming system, not a Locker folder or tagging feature; Epic’s cited instructions do not establish folders, custom labels, or custom sorting.
What happens when you delete a preset?
Preset deletion is available in several Locker areas, not only Character. Epic documents presets for Character (outfit, back bling, pickaxe, glider, contrail, and aura), Emotes, Wraps, Lobby (banner, lobby music, and loading screen), Instruments, Cars, and Jam Tracks.
- Open the Locker section containing the preset.
- Find the preset you intend to remove.
- Open its ellipsis menu and choose Delete.
- Check that you selected the intended preset before confirming or completing the deletion.
Epic explains that with indexless loadouts introduced in v34.10, deleting a preset also deletes empty tiles. As a result, entries previously separated by empty spaces can appear rearranged. Do Series labels help organize the Locker?
Epic’s April 9, 2024 v29.20 announcement said cosmetic Series labels, including Icon Series and Gaming Legends Series, would remain to help players find items after Shop and Locker changes. That is historical context for those labels, not confirmation of every filtering or sorting option currently available. See Epic’s v29.20 announcement for that update.
