Compare the Steam Workshop listing with the game’s Mod Manager, check for unexplained discrepancies, and treat Steam’s “Verify integrity of game files” as a check of the base game installation, not the mod.
What you can—and cannot—verify
A matching Workshop listing, author identity, Workshop ID, and pack filename can help establish which item you found or installed. They do not certify the package’s contents or show that every change was approved by the person or group you expected. Steam Workshop items can be updated by their authors, so a mod you checked previously may later change. Steamworks Workshop documentation describes Workshop item updates and delivery to clients.
Use these checks to spot inconsistencies and decide whether to pause. They are cautious player practices, not a Creative Assembly security standard.
Check the listing before subscribing
Confirm the source and author
Open the mod from the expected Steam Workshop listing rather than relying on a copied file or an unfamiliar repost. Record the title, named author, Workshop ID, description, version or update date, dependencies, and change notes. If comparing two listings for what appears to be the same mod, check whether the author identity and account history make sense alongside the ID and update information.

Compare the stated scope with the files and behavior described
Pause if the listing or user reports point to unexplained changes—for example, a different mod identity, an unexpected executable or installer, unrelated bundled files, or files that do not fit the described purpose. Unexplained ownership changes are also worth checking. A discrepancy is a reason to seek clarification or avoid installing until you are satisfied; it is not, by itself, proof of malicious intent.
Prefer the expected author-maintained Workshop listing over an unverified copy when that is the source the author identifies. Workshop distribution is not a guarantee that a package is authorized or safe.

Compare the Workshop page with the Mod Manager
Total War: WARHAMMER III’s Mod Manager can display information including a mod’s source or subscription status, version, pack filename, and Workshop ID. The Steam-hosted Mod Manager announcement describes these interface details; labels and layout may change over time.
- Open the mod’s Workshop page and note its title, author, Workshop ID, version or update date, dependencies, description, and change notes.
- Open the game’s Mod Manager and locate the corresponding mod. Compare its displayed source or subscription information, version, pack filename, and Workshop ID with the listing.
- Stop and investigate if the ID, author, filename, or described purpose does not line up. Do not treat a successful match as a security verdict: it identifies the item, not whether every change in its contents was authorized.
- After an author update, revisit the listing and change notes rather than assuming your earlier review still describes the current item.
Inspecting a local pack file
If you choose to inspect a downloaded pack, first confirm that the inspection utility comes from a trustworthy publisher and is current. The available official guidance does not identify a currently recommended Creative Assembly utility for inspecting WARHAMMER III mod packages, so do not treat a particular third-party tool as officially endorsed. A file inspection can help you compare contents with the listing, but it cannot establish authorization on its own. A generic antivirus scan likewise cannot determine whether a mod’s game changes were approved.

Where Steam Workshop mods are stored—and how to remove one
SEGA’s Total War mod removal guidance, updated December 6, 2022, explains how to inspect subscribed mods in the launcher’s Mod Manager or Steam’s subscribed-items list, unsubscribe, and remove mod files from the game data or Workshop content locations. Follow its steps for the relevant installation rather than deleting files based on an assumed path.
- Review your subscribed mods in the launcher’s Mod Manager or Steam’s subscribed-items list and identify the item you want to remove.
- Unsubscribe from the item, then remove its files from the relevant game data or Steam Workshop content location using SEGA’s instructions.
- In Steam, open the game’s Properties, go to Installed Files, and select “Verify integrity of game files.” This checks the installed game files, not whether a Workshop mod is authorized or safe. Steam Support’s verification instructions cover that game-file check.
SEGA warns that a save may depend on a mod; removing that mod can affect the current campaign, and starting a new campaign may be necessary.
