The last three recommendations come from a Reddit discussion by players looking for horror games after Alan Wake 2. They reflect individual taste, not a survey or a hands-on ranking. The discussion also mentions Alien: Isolation, but does not establish a broader comparison across horror games. Check platform availability in your region before choosing; the sources here do not verify current retailer stock.

Control is the most direct choice if you want another Remedy game built around strange supernatural events. Remedy describes it as a supernatural third-person action-adventure, and PlayStation identifies it as part of the same universe as Alan Wake. Its AWE expansion creates an explicit crossover with Alan Wake’s story. Remedy lists Control as a 2019 release.

It is a tonal and gameplay match, not a promise of more Alan Wake 2: Control leans toward action-adventure rather than the survival-horror framing of Alan Wake 2. Pick it for the shared world and supernatural action, rather than expecting the same balance of horror and resource pressure.
For Alan’s earlier story: Alan Wake Remastered
If your main question after Alan Wake 2 is what happened before it, Alan Wake Remastered is the straightforward backstory route. Remedy describes the original game as an episodic psychological action-thriller following Alan as he searches for his missing wife. The remaster was released in 2021, according to Remedy’s game page.

This is optional context, not required homework. In PlayStation’s announcement of Alan Wake 2, Remedy creative director Sam Lake said, “playing our previous games is not required in any way to fully enjoy Alan Wake 2,” though they add backstory. That makes the remaster a good choice for curiosity about the series, rather than a prerequisite for understanding the sequel. Read the PlayStation.Blog announcement.
Why you can choose something completely different
Alan Wake 2 is Remedy’s first survival-horror game, with two parallel stories across two worlds and two protagonists, Alan and Saga. Lake says Saga’s perspective gives newcomers an entry point into the supernatural lore while returning players can discover connections. His stated aim was for the game to work on its own while rewarding fans who spot those links. Sam Lake explains the approach for Remedy.

So if what stayed with you was simply the appeal of survival horror, psychological unease, or a strange story, you don’t have to stay in the Remedy universe. Resident Evil 2 (remake), Silent Hill 2 (remake), and SOMA are options raised by players in the community discussion. They are different kinds of alternatives, not substitutes for Control’s shared-world connections.

The Night Springs and The Lake House expansions continue within Alan Wake 2’s world. TIME reported in 2024 that the two add around four hours of gameplay in total; that figure is TIME’s coverage, not a universal or independently measured completion time. What’s next for Control?
Remedy’s games catalog lists CONTROL Resonant among upcoming titles, so it is a watchlist item rather than a game to play now. Xbox Wire’s preview, published 4 March 2026, describes Dylan Faden as its protagonist and Manhattan as a setting affected by the Hiss. Release status can change; consult Remedy’s catalog for the current listing and Xbox Wire’s preview for its description.
