To work through Skyrim’s quests without losing track, first decide what “every quest” means for your edition, then follow the main story’s prerequisite order, discover side quests in the world, and use the in-game Quest menu to manage one objective at a time. There is no single established total that covers every release, add-on, repeatable radiant task, and mod.
Decide what counts as “every quest”
A completion checklist is only meaningful once its boundaries are clear. The base game, official add-ons, Creation Club content, radiant tasks, and mods do not form one fixed set across all versions. Choose a scope before tracking progress, and mark repeatable tasks separately from named quests with a defined ending.

For edition details, see Bethesda’s description of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition. Its statement about included content identifies official edition contents; it is not a claim that every mod or later user-created quest is covered.
Follow the main quest’s ordered progression
The main story is the clearest questline to use as a backbone: its quests have prerequisites and progress through three acts. Prima Games’ main-quest guide lays out 20 quests across those acts. Treat that sequence as a route through the story, not as a claim that every entry is mandatory for the same outcome.

- Optional branch: “Paarthurnax” is marked optional after “Alduin’s Bane.” If you are auditing progress, record whether you completed it rather than assuming it is required to advance the main story.
- Conditional branch: “Season Unending” applies if the Civil War is still raging. Its absence from your journal does not by itself show that you missed a required quest; whether it occurs depends on the state of that conflict.
Use a main-quest checklist that records prerequisites and labels optional or conditional entries. A plain count can be misleading when a quest is optional or depends on a world-state condition.
Find side quests and check their prerequisites
Side quests do not all share the main story’s mandatory order. Many can be started independently or taken up at leisure, while some become available only after another quest. Explore, speak with characters, and check any prerequisite noted in your checklist before deciding that a quest is unavailable or missed.

- “The Wolf Queen Awakened” follows “The Man Who Cried Wolf.”
- “No One Escapes Cidhna Mine” follows “The Forsworn Conspiracy.”
These examples illustrate why recording quest names and dependencies is more useful than keeping a single running total. If a listed quest has not appeared, check its prerequisite before searching elsewhere for a trigger.
Use the Quest menu to manage the next objective
The in-game journal is a navigation tool, not a universal completion audit. It lists active quests and their objectives; it cannot by itself establish that you have found every quest available across your edition and chosen content scope.

- Open the Quest menu and review the quests and objectives currently listed.
- Toggle the quests you want to track as active, so the objective markers correspond to the work you are doing now.
- Select the objective you want to navigate to and choose Show on Map.
- When that objective is complete, return to the Quest menu and select the next one. For a completionist audit, compare your journal against an external checklist that matches your edition and scope.
Tracking a small group of objectives at a time makes map markers easier to interpret, while the separate checklist helps you notice content that is not currently active in the journal.
Keep named questlines separate from repeatable work
Faction questlines and repeatable faction tasks are different completion goals. For example, Prima Games’ College of Winterhold coverage lists the named College questline separately from radiant quests such as “Valuable Book Procurement.” Decide whether your goal is to finish the named storyline, complete radiant tasks as well, or simply note that repeatable work is available.

Because repeatable activity does not have the same natural endpoint as a fixed questline, do not fold it into a claim that you have completed a definitive number of quests. Track it in its own category if it matters to your personal goal.

For a practical “100%” run, make separate sections for the main story, named side quests, faction questlines, Daedric quests, each official add-on you own, and any Creation Club or mod content you have chosen to include. Add radiant tasks as a distinct, explicitly repeatable category rather than mixing them with finite questlines.

- Record a quest as complete only when its ending or final objective is recorded in your chosen tracker.
- Mark optional quests as optional, and conditional quests with the condition that determines whether they occur.
- Record prerequisites for quests that depend on earlier work.
- Keep edition-specific content and user-created content in separate sections so the list remains meaningful if your installed content changes.
This approach gives you a transparent definition of completion. It avoids treating an active journal, a quest count, or a list for a different edition as proof that every possible Skyrim quest has been completed.
